460 GTX crash

Post by WarlockSyno » Sat Jul 31, 2010 12:51 am

I installed my GTX 460, when you move your cursor outside of the Overgrowth window, the WHOLE computer locks up.

Hm.. that's weird. Does this happen with other games too? If so, check your drivers and whatnot. You have a rather new card and there is bound to be some nasty bugs. If not and you have the latest ones, contact Jeff or somebody else on the Wolfire team, with a crashlog that is. If possible and then they'll help you out and fix whatever is causing it for future releases!

Please keep in mind, that currently wolfire's number one priority is to get all the features, namely combat implemented and working fully. Once that is the case they will start worrying about graphics card compatibility, bug fixing and optimization.

That said, as toby suggested, try catching jeff or john on the irc, they might be able to help you out.

Same card here, I just got a reply from an e-mail I sent asking about the same issue, however John doesn't seem to know the problem. Fortunately just Overgrowth locks up for me, and not the whole computer.

Well, now it just crashes the card drivers. Luckily I'm on Windows 7, so it automatically turns them back on.

Just as a side note, please feel free to reply to this topic on supported graphics cards: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6406

And add your info to the wiki (as discussed in the above topic):

Same problem here with alpha 99.

GTX 460 1GB, intel Q6600, 2GB RAM, Windows seven home 32b

the game is starting and i can see the maps during 3 seconds with 650 to 999 fps depending on the maps, then the computer totally locks up and i have to switch it off.

Having the exact same problem.. GTX 460 1gb..

Shame. Been waiting to try this since it was first announced, and I've kept following the blog since alpha release #1. :(

I guess it'll work when the game is finished!

You could try running in fullscreen mode by changing config.txt, it sounds like the drivers probably have some trouble with windowed contexts.

I was able to make it run for a while yesterday!

I set anisotropy and multisample to 0, and set fullscreen = true.

I was able to load up the engine, the map and fly around for a bit. I was even able to run around with Robbert! :)

It crashed when I tried to make him ragdoll, however.

How do you make him ragdoll? That shouldn't be possible in the last couple alphas.

Well, being the first time I've tried the alpha I wasn't sure how to do it. I tried the good old Lugaru method, by ninja rolling in air into a rock. Then it crashed!

could run it with these config.txt settings

screenwidth: 1680
screenheight: 1050
fullscreen: true
vsync: true
multisample: 4
anisotropy: 0
post_effects: true
shaders: true
texture_reduce: 0
gamma_correct: true

key[quit]: esc
key[slow]: tab
key[fast]: \
key[crouch]: lshift
key[jump]: space
key[screenshot]: f7
key[console]: `
key[left]: a
key[right]: d
key[up]: w
key[down]: s
key[chat]: t
key[rclick]: rshift

//authload

anisotropy is crashing after a while

i'll do more tests now that i can run it

ps: changing key{] settings has no effect
