Running Animations:

Post by SilentSouth » Thu May 12, 2011 7:38 am

At the moment we have the normal jogging animation which just speeds up when accelerating.

I just wanted to suggest some ideas for when the other animations are added:

Stage 1:
Walking

Stage 2:
Jogging

Stage 3:
When the character starts gaining more speed it would look cool if the jogging animation rather then the leg movement speeding up, it should slow down but turner should take longer and more 'lurching' strides with a bit of motion blur and perhaps bending forward slightly.

Stage 4: (Only applies to certain races)
Running on all fours like from Lugaru, it could convert nicely from stage 3 as the strides are longer and turner would already be bent forward slightly going into a full blown sprint with extra motion blur.

What do you guys think?

I hope this will be done in a new build soon~
Jumping off a mountain and running down the hill results in insanely rapid-fast leg movement. As amusing as it is, it's still not a feature of the game... (hopefully D:)

First step I'd think is limiting how fast the character can move or run.
Then a feature, if the character begins running too fast down a slope, the trip or fall, sending them into the ragdoll feature executed by "Z". Im not sure what it's called.

Then next step would be adding the different stages of running animation.

Why only certain races? All OG animals are naturally quadrupeds. I agree with everything else though.

I certainly agree with this. It looks very weird when running downhill and such. Actually, the stages you're talking about seems like something that would make a huge difference, and make movement feel a lot more natural. There should be a certain threshold, a limit to how fast you can run downhill before falling though. It would add some extra excitement and fun if you're being chased by wolves, for example. Or if you're the one chasing someone else, then seeing them trip and tumble down a large hill. :)
