My desktop on the terrain???
My desktop on the terrain???
So I was playing in a170 in the "Impressive Mountains" map when all of a sudden i noticed something really weird on the terrain. I had a closer look and saw that there were words written out on the terrain in huge letters. Didn't take me long to realize that it was the name of a file on my desktop.
I went into editor mode, flew up and when I looked down on the terrain I saw this:
It's as if the game took a screenshot of my desktop and painted it out onto the terrain.......
I'm not sure if this is some debug feature.
Anyone know what's going on?
Can it have anything to do with me tinkering with the aschar.as file?
Thanks

It's a bug they tried to squash once before:

Basically, your computer loads your desktop into memory to draw it. Overgrowth uses memory to draw the ground. These two memory areas happened to overlap, and the functions to clear it didn't catch it for some reason.

Well I guess as long as they know about I'm fine.
Besides, like mentioned above, it's pretty cool.
Re: My desktop on the terrain???
I would actually like to know how to make this happen.

That would be freaking cool. I'd like to see a picture of your actual desktop for reference.

On an off-note: Lugaru 2? Is that how the Mac side recognizes the app?
Re: My desktop on the terrain???
Yeah, I noticed this as well with 170, I'm pretty sure david has discovered it, but a bug report never hurts =)
Yep, the mac version uses 'lugaru2' as the name in a few locations. It's just a vestigial name that ended up never getting changed. I'm guessing it will at some point though, since it is a little confusing.Jazzmutant wrote:On an off-note: Lugaru 2? Is that how the Mac side recognizes the app?

Was that supposed to be a rip at Macs?Jazzmutant wrote:On an off-note: Lugaru 2? Is that how the Mac side recognizes the app?
The app is called Overgrowth.app. It only shows Lugaru2 on the status bar when I run it and I'm too busy playing the game at that point to care very much.
Re: My desktop on the terrain???
I doubt they meant it as anything but a harmless inquiry. After all a windows user wouldn't be getting that at all.moomoohk wrote:Was that supposed to be a rip at Macs?Jazzmutant wrote:On an off-note: Lugaru 2? Is that how the Mac side recognizes the app?

The game's local data folder is also named 'lugaru2', like where the settings and logs are saved:
Code: Select all
Macintosh HD/Users/<Username>/Library/Application Support/lugaru2
Re: My desktop on the terrain???
I didn't mean for that to come off as aggressive as it might have. I guess I'm just a bit sick of people thinking Macs are "second class" computers after Windows (I don't even know why. It's such a stupid argument. Kinda like religion). I got that impression from how he said "the mac side", but like you said I could be wrong.Johannes wrote:I doubt they meant it as anything but a harmless inquiry. But anyway, my point was that at least in my case, it doesn't really matter what word it says where as long as I can play this awesome game.
Re: My desktop on the terrain???
I literally just ran the game. From what I see now it sort "captures" what's on my screen when I run the game (not necessarily my desktop) and sticks in on the terrain.MagnusM1 wrote:I would actually like to know how to make this happen.
