Why There Absolutely Can Not be a Mouse Faction

Post by Ovaltine » Thu Dec 25, 2008 6:42 pm

Does anyone else get the feeling that Lugaru is starting to look like the children's novel series Redwall by Brian Jacques?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the stuff Aubrey has churned out so far, artistically. It's just... Rabbits, Rats, Cats, Wolves — does anyone else see what I'm talking about?

I love Redwall, but encourage the Lugaru series to remain its own, yeah. It's definitely headed down a much more mature and gritty path than children's books (even if they had a tendency for being somewhat dark). That said, badgers and otters as in Jacques' novels modded into Overgrowth? Hell yes.

I for one rather enjoyed reading the Redwall books as a kid.
(Come to think of it, isn't that fellow still churning them out?)

The resemblances between OG and Redwall don't strike me as something to worry about.
The major similarities:
1. Anthropomorphic violence.
2. Pre-gunpowder technology.
3. Some animal types.

In a word... meh. Besides, the first two were already present in Lugaru.

I think there should be Mice, and other species in OG, it makes the game feel more real when there are more than just rabbits and wolves in the world. I'd encourage the OG team to make more than just the Rabbit's Wolf's Cat's Rat's species. and i'f they dont... THEN I WILL! :D

Redwall rules. And Overgrowth will be all the better for its inclusion of more species. Like Lotus said, it makes the world you are playing in more believable and dynamic.

I heard that only a few species will be important to the story, or something... but if that's true then they should definately add in a bunch more species for those of up wishing to make mods and for multiplayer =p

Hmm, I think we first need to know a bit more about their place in this world... I feel the same about the cats: cautious.

And I was thinking of making a Redwall mod. I guess it's now counted as communism to copy anything vaguely.

Have you even played lugaru?! I know from experience that lugaru and overgrowth don't even compare to redwall (not in the bad way.)

I think we're safe from becoming Redwall. If two-thirds of the game was going to be a detailed pie-eating-and-singing simulation, we'd have heard about it by now.
