Why not both?

Don't know if it's relevant but with the new rats, which is the animal I will play, I just wish they had a male sneaky one. As they are seem so heavy and a little slower, I want a form of the rat that was sneaky, quick, small and cant take much damage. That would be fun.
I'd love to have a feature in the final game where if your a rat you can pull grass out to use as camo and stick it to your armour without going to edit mode. The rat shouldn't be able to take a lot of damage but can hold lots of knives, that would be cool.
Anyway I thought yo might like a Jackalope, those mythical creatures that are rabbits with deer horns. That would be cool, especially if they were really rare.

A fish or smth that looks like it comes out of the sea. From the races ATM rats.

New to the forums, but I did the hoop jumping to get here and say this:
I would absolutely /love/ to see a reptilian race added. I've created a bit of headcanon that I think would fit well with the series. Mysterious, shrouded, and very secluded, the reptilian race would be one of quite a bit of mystery. While many different species usually get along barring the major factions, the reptiles are always doing things of their own volition. They consist of mercenaries, scouts, spys and espionage experts, able to dispatch enemies with ease, often through an indirect means (staged accidents, poisonings, etc.)
I thought of these guys through my own higher design concepts: each species has their strong suits in mission and the story. Rabbits are good scouts, dogs are good warriors, rats are extremely stealthy...reptiles would be a sorta mix of all three. They use a different form of martial arts that involves more disabling rather than killing, which could also be applied to their choice of weapons in the form of paralyzing poisons. They work for anyone who's willing to pay enough, and aren't terribly keen on new relationships or prospects.

I personally would love to see Dolphins or Platypuses, but that's just me.
Re: *What animal will you play as or love to see implemented
It seems to me that this discussion has reached its full potential. While water living animals would be kewl I hardly see it fit for the game.
Also, don't you guys think Wolfire should focus more on the in game dynamics and the editor before they spend time on modelling animals? I mean, soon enough you could make a complete Zoo map but the game still lacks a fluid parkour system, stealth AI, light sources, (and moving platforms, without implementing unstable user made hotspots etc.) <- this i cannot stress enough

I'd love to see a raccoon, I've always thought the cat was enough, but thinking about the raccoon made me want one. If any other species would be implemented, anyway.

Otter would be pretty BA. An aquatic mammal slightly less strong than the dog? That'd be amazing.
Rigging and fully implementing the Whaleman would be basically the most I could ever ask for too. Whalemen are like the Horsemen of the apocalypse for the animals in Overgrowth, too, since official lore states that the Whalemen are responsible for the extinction of foxes, panthers, and tigers, too.

I'd love to see a raccoon as a playable animal in overgrowth, stealthy and ninja like.
