Arena Pack (Re-release)

Post by Hale » Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:23 pm

A long time ago I release a small Arena Pack. Back then, we had no AI so the maps were empty. Fast forward over a year, and now we do have AI. So I re-editted them all, made some small adjustments and fixed their XML's so they'd work with our current Alpha.

CITY DUEL - A one-on-one styled arena, the simple gameplay against one AI provides quick entertainment as you can dual each other over and over again. The low object count ensures that there should be very little lag, even on some of the more horrendous computers. 2-4 players.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Desert Slayer - A far bigger map than City Dual, it provides a larger scale team slayer battlefield. As it is in the download, it is a 2-on-2 battle with both teams colliding in the middle as the fight over the dessert city. It has a bit over 2,000 objects, so slower computers will not be able to play this very well, especially with the 3 AI involved. 4-12 players.

Citadel Arena - This map is the most versatile of the pack. Whether you want intimate one-on-one duals, or 3-on-3 team slayer, you can enjoy it all in the barely lit halls of the citadel. The dark environment make the small gameplay area infinitely bigger, while also constricting combat to be close and personal. The object count is low, but with shadows calculated it may run slow, so be weary. 2-6 players.
----------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, nothing to much new to see besides there actually being AI to fight with. If any of the maps are too slow for you guys, just take out some AI. I plan to make more of these kinds of maps someday, until then...
Instructions

1. Download the zipped folder, and put ALL of it's contents in "Data>Levels."
2. Have Fun. If you're missing a skybox, download it from here
Thanks to Last for re-releasing a bunch of my old maps. He's cool.

The maps look great, but just FYI:

Dual means two, as in dual-wielding weapons. A duel is a fight between two people.

A dessert is a sweet treat after a meal. A desert is a very arid place.

:D

Feel free to, but they were made to only be seen from within, so it might be a tad tricky to try to hide the outwards imperfections. Arena 3 would probably be the easiest, since it's all contained within a structure, but Arena 1 wouldn't be to hard either. You might want to also wait till I re-release my Prefabricated Resources. It has all the houses one could ask for.

Hale... I love you. Truly beautiful maps. I really hope that Wolfire adds in some basic MP at/shortly after release. These would make an awesome map pack.
Also, those top-down screenshots really remind me of Counter-Strike...

I played the maps, and I feel that the first map is a good map for slower computers/quicker rounds. I did not get to play the second map unfortunately, as overgrowth would crash during loading, and yes I did download all the skyboxes. The third map is unique, as in it has many good features. But the wolfs can't jump so no problem defeating them. I think these are good maps and should continue working on them.

Hey so I was messing around with the xml's and I found out there isn't anything wrong at all really. If you have a mac, just make sure the maps are in a137's actual "Data>Levels" folder. I tried to put them in "Application Support>Lugaru 2>Data>Levels" and I got the bad xml data error too. Do you have a Mac or a PC?
