How do I even start?

Post by Krolaphi » Thu Nov 17, 2011 2:12 am

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot or if this was already posted. I did searched hard for it but could not find anything. I just preordered and downloaded the file. But how do I install it? It just says unknown file. Do I need to do anything first? Here is the picture on what I am talking about.

Looks like you managed to remove the file extension. Add ".zip" without quote marks and see if it'll open for you then.

I didn't remove anything. It downloaded like that. Well I changed it to zip and now it says that the file has been corrupted or invalid. Oh by the way I am running windows xp.

Just got started myself but try and rename it to a .exe extention. I downloaded a .exe file for the alpha so it should be that.

I finally got it to install. But now its saying no graphics detected that supports shaders; please wait for us to implement a shader fallback path. How do I disable shaders so the game can start?

You don't, at least not till they add the shader fallback path.

Go to you config file. My documents -> Wolfire -> Overgrowth -> Data or something like that. Change shaders to false if it is true and true if it is already false. I'm not sure which one works.

I thought that choice didn't do anything yet?

I have just tried to put shaders to false but it still says the same thing. I even tried putting everything to false but it still does not work.

Unfortunately it sounds like your video card is not powerful enough to play Overgrowth. Would you mind posting your specifications? They are available by opening your start menu, typing "dxdiag" (without the quotes), hitting enter, and navigating to the display tab.

I guess I can get a new graphics card. Is there any graphics card that is compatible with windows xp that works with overgrowth?

There are quite a few, over varying price levels. Check out this thread for a list of confirmed working video cards.
