Post by Aaron » Sun Jan 08, 2012 3:57 pm

We're Back!!

All mods have been updated to use the new mod system from Beta 3. We did not spend any time fixing issues with actual mods though, so if there are issues, please contact the original developer.

[+] What is SUMLauncher...
SUMLauncher is a tool for managing your overgrowth installation that was created by the members of the Overgrowth community. It is the first part of the SUM OG Utilities.

It is a cross-platform, Java-based application that lets you:
  • Download Overgrowth securely
  • Patch Overgrowth when new builds are released
  • Access and modify Overgrowth's settings
  • Browse and Install Community-made Content
  • And much more!

      Image
    • When a new Overgrowth alpha is released the Alpha Tab will show the changelog and let you update without having to re-download everything:
      Image
    • It can even update your Overgrowth alpha if you are several alphas behind:
      Image
    • With the News Tab you can stay up to date on the latest Overgrowth news:
      Image
    • In the Community Content tab you can access the 'Community Content Browser' which has now replaced the Menu Mod. (See the next section for more info) :Image
    • In the Overgrowth Config tab you can access a large variety of settings for the game:Image
    • Lastly, if SUMLauncher runs into into issues you will be able to access the 'SUMLog' :
      Image
From the Menu you have several options, such as:
    • You can clean your caches, which may help fix some bugs:Image
    • You can customize your SUMLauncher preferences:
      Image
    • [+] Community Content Browser
      • This is the main Community Content Browser window, which defaults to the Available Content tab. You can Browse and filter content via the 'Sorting' options along the top of the window:
        Image
      • After selecting content, clicking 'install' will add it to your download queue. You can queue up as many downloads as you want and they will download and install in the order that you added them:
        Image
      • If a map or mod depends on content from another mod it will prompt you to first install the required dependencies:
        Image
      • Once installed you can view and manage your installed mods by clicking the Installed Content Tab:
        Image
      • If a newer version of a map or mod is uploaded by the creator you can install it by clicking on the new 'Available Version' :
        Image
    Download and Installation
    • The Launcher is self-updating! When we release an update you will be given a prompt to install it, and won't have to re-download it!
    • [+] Mac Instructions
      • Download the self-contained Launcher Application here.
      • Installation: Double click the zip file, and place the resulting 'SUMLauncher' application in your Application folder.
    • [+] Windows Instructions
      • Download the Windows Executable (exe) here.
      • Installation: Double click the zip file, then drag your SUMLauncher executable to your desktop, or any other folder you might like.
      • Note: If you are using AVG Anti-Virus (both free and full edition) you will need to disable:
        • LinkScanner's Surf-Shield feature:
          Image
        • Email-protection's 'Scan incoming messages' and 'Scan outgoing messages':
          Image
If you do not, it's likely that updates and other download functions of the SUMLauncher will be silently blocked by it. Just adding the launcher to your safe list will not work.
    • [+] Linux Instructions
      • Download the self-contained Launcher Application here.
      • Installation: Extract the SUMLauncher.jar file from the zip, and run (java -jar SUMLauncher.jar)
    Authenticating SUMLauncher
    • Note: We currently require users to enter their SPF key to be able to use the Launcher. This has been approved by the devs. In the future we plan to work with the devs to add support for an official API key.
*Steam Users: Please note that you must use your SPF Forum Key, not the Steam CD Key provided through Steam. This key is the same one you used to access this forum
    • [+] Authentication Instructions
When you first start the SUMLauncher it will ask you for your secret alpha key.

If you preordered before the Humble Store integration, you can find your secret alpha key in the link to your preorder panel link and on the preorder panel itself. It's the 8 characters circled in red:
      • Image
Check the pre-order email you got from [email protected] when you purchased the alpha, it will contain this link.

If you lost that email to your preorder panel just visit http://www.wolfire.com/spf and enter your email address to have it re-sent to you.

If you preordered after the Humble Store integration, you will find your key in your Humble Bundle Game Library:
      • Image
        Image
    Support
    • [+] troubleshooting
Attention Windows users with AVG Antivirus
      You will need to disable:
      • LinkScanner's Surf-Shield feature:
        Image
      • Email-protection's 'Scan incoming messages' and 'Scan outgoing messages':
        Image
If you do not, it's likely that updates and other download functions of the SUMLauncher will be silently blocked by it. Just adding the launcher to your safe list will not work.

If you are a Windows user and cannot open the SUMLauncher executable, please right click the zip file and choose 'extract all', select your desktop and move the files manually, or simply try re-downloading it.

If you try opening the launcher and nothing happens:
      • Please be sure that you have Java installed. Try visiting this page to check what version of Java you have installed
      • If you are a windows user we can try giving you an executable that has an embedded Java runtime environment that might fix it, but would be a bit of a larger download.
      • Make sure no antivirus software is blocking the program (you may need to add an exception).
(This may also be the case if you try to update Overgrowth and it seems to freeze / get suck)
If your SUMLauncher sent you here to 'Get the new SUMLauncher' please be sure to first delete the old launcher and then download the new launcher from the 'quick links' at the top of the page.

      Mac users:
If you're running OSX Lion, it's possible you may see this:
      Image
The message you're seeing is because of one of Mountain Lion's new "features", Gate Keeper. Gate Keeper prevents unsigned applications that you download from the internet from running, unless you change an option in System Preferences.
      Image
Open System Preferences, go to Security and Privacy, unlock the page, then choose "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from".

      Linux users:
Due to a bug in the 2.0 version of the SUMLauncher, the old SUM.jar file will need to be manually cleared out! Please delete the SUM.jar file located into your "~/.local/share/Overgrowth/SUM OG Utilities" folder, then run the SUMLauncher.jar file to get the new update. We apologize for the inconvenience. This only applies if you are using 2.0 - 2.0.1 and onward fixes this issue.

      Missing Community Tab:
If your community tab is not showing up, please try this
      1. Try resizing the spawner window. Sometimes the community tab shows up on a row that is lower than what is visible, and making it bigger will allow it to show up
      2. If step 1. doesn't fix it, delete the file Data/UI/spawner/objects/custom.js, then run SUMLauncher again (it will re-download custom.js)

For submitting bug reports please see the 'Support' section below.
  • [+] Contact info
If you've found a bug in the SUMLauncher or want to share a crash log please use the SUM OG Utilities Bug Report Form

If you are having issues you can also find us on the wolfire IRC, just look for 'Anton', 'Aaron' or 'Johannes', or just post in this topic.
    Thanks!

Reason: Disabled smileys because there was a "B)" face in the version number.

Just wondering, why is the Java app asking for the Overgrowth Secret Preorder Forum Key?

We want to make sure that only people with pre-order keys have access to it.

Eventually we should be able to allow people to log in with their forum username/password. We're working together with Jeff to get that working but in the meantime this will have to do.

Awesome!
Can't get it working though :(
I get "Error: Invalid Key". The only key I got from Wolfire is formatted like: [email protected]/xx/xx, is this the right key?

That should be it. It's the one you find on your pre-order panel here:
Image
Where it says: "Your secret alpha key is ... "

If you don't know how to get there just go to www.wolfire.com/spf and enter your email address at the bottom to have your link sent to you again.

Make sure you copy it exactly and don't have any spaces selected when you copy/paste it.

The key was sent to your email when you pre-ordered. There should be a URL:
http://www.wolfire.com/spf/KEY-IS-HERE

Entered forum key and it works for me, though I have nothing to update at the moment :) Will wait for A164 to be released and test again.
