Unofficial Overgrowth a181, weekly build

Post by Jeff » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:12 am

The unofficial, Overgrowth a181 leaked build is here!

(note: no video this week)

Changelog:
- Added worker process pool for background tasks
- Improved Linux installer
- Added different scale options for detail textures

A "leaked build" is when John and I grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David and Aubrey but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly!

If you find any bugs, please email a full description along with your system specs to [email protected].

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps.

To download the alpha, use one of these links:

This Windows build is having some issues, please stick to a180 for now! David posted a fix here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=15495&p=166204#p166201

I botched the Windows installer this week! Sorry! I will make a new one soon.

For new users
  • If you have not installed Overgrowth yet you can use the SUMLauncher to do so!
  • If you already have Overgrowth installed you can use the SUMLauncher to update it to the latest alpha.
  • The SUMLauncher also allows you to install the Menu Mod which gives you another 105+ maps to try.
For Existing SUMLauncher users
  • If the menu files were changed in this alpha, the menu mod will no longer work. Updating the Menu Mod (to re-enable custom maps) might take us a little while. Once we have uploaded a new version you can use the menu mod installer to update it. (And don't worry, it won't break anything if you try running the installer before we upload the new files.)
  • It may also take us a bit to update the Menu Mod to include any new maps that this alpha may have added.
For future updates keep an eye on our twitter @SUMOGUtilities!

Updated with SUMLauncher and it brings up a command window with:
"Creating OS Process"

And that just stays there indefinitely. Anyone else got this problem? Easy solution?

For what it's worth, the Linux version seems to run fine. The process error looks to be Win specific. Don't know about Mac.

Yeah I have this issue as well.
When I launch the game it simply displays the text "Creating OS Process" on black background in a console-like window.

I am running Overgrowth a181 on Windows 7 64bit.
From the task manager It seems that "Overgrowth.exe *32" is using no CPU resources at all. 24936K of memory is allocated. Running the game ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfire\Overgrowth\Overgrowth.exe") as administrator does not solve the issue. I do not have SUMLauncher installed.

Can everyone having a problem confirm it's on the Win version? Any Mac users out there running into this?

I can confirm on the same machine: Runs perfectly on OSX, but I get the Creating OS Process problem in Win7.

EDIT: I may have spoken too soon... there is a significant change that I have to double check on the Mac side, but I have to download a clean build... will update shortly...
