Pre-A195 build system test
Pre-A195 build system test
For most of the last couple weeks I worked on overhauling the build system to use CMake to keep all the platform projects in sync, as well as updating our libraries, compilers and IDEs to the latest versions. This should improve performance and stability for the builds, but first I'd like to check if we broke something in the deployment process. So, we are posting these builds here first for anyone who would like to help test it out.
Windows: download here
If it shows an error about MSVCP110.dll or something along those lines, please try putting these .dlls in the same folder as Overgrowth.exe: download DLL .zip here. I am especially interested to hear if it works on Windows XP.
Mac: download here
Linux:download here
The Linux version accidentally includes two executables: "overgrowth" and "Overgrowth". The lower-case one does not work, so please try the upper-case one instead.

Hullo David,
Could you please make the files a diff zipball or similar?
Downloading a massive file doesn't feel very convenient!
Thanks

Yo! The windows download is really slow, takes around 4 hours to download for me, so you might want to consider using a torrent instead.
EDIT: After around 30 min to 1 hour the file download finished and the installer was corrupt .

Re: Pre-A195 build system test
Download worked fine and quickly for me, and the game runs silky smooth. Somehow it even looks smoother and more vibrant than usual... Well, absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess.
Also I think slow motion may be broken. Pressing tab once freezes the world completely, including camera motion, double tapping does nothing special.

Re: Pre-A195 build system test
5 tries now, download doesnt work at all.
Re: Pre-A195 build system test
Love the new test build so far, I can tell things are faster. Like when I press ESC to go to the editor it goes there RIGHT when press it unlike before where it took a few sec to get too it. A.I spawning is an instant. The undo and redo is way slower though. Exiting the game is faster too. There was a part on desert outpost where Turner walked where if you go ragdoll there it would cause intense lag, I'm happy to see that no longer happens. Even with dynamic shadows on. Running on Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Just so you know.

Re: Pre-A195 build system test
Can you guys email me your IP address and download issue summary at [email protected] so I can get the download speed fixed
Re: Pre-A195 build system test
Aaand you guys have now solved the Linux problems (both the broken build and performance). Thanks!

Couple of issues/suggestions:
When pressing escape, now, because the editor opens almost instantly and escape is still being held down it usually pops up the menu. The same press of escape that opened the editor shouldn't cause the menu to pop up too.
Now that the UI stuff is so fast, can we have the Level Ended screen back? That made it feel like more of a real game to me.

I have noticed this as well, and I agree with having the end screen UI back.gnurdux wrote:Couple of issues/suggestions:

Ya, that doesn't work. I'm running windows7David wrote:

Edit: nvm, it was missing OpenAL32.dll, for anyone else with this problem, search your computer for the file, then place it in the same folder as .exe
Edit Edit: That is awesome
