Overgrowth not starting (MAC)

Hey guys. I just bought Overgrowth on my MacBook Pro from early 2011, which apparently can still run overgrowth on high settings smoothly. I bought it through Steam, and when I open it, the little wolf logo floats around until I hear audio of the game, but then the wolf logo freezes and the entire computer stops responding until I hold down the power button and force it to shut down. This happened twice. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
