I'm a real big of fan of the Phoenix engine, I love seeing it progress, and having it be able to expand with the vision of overgrowth.

The way he explains switching to UE4 does make me confident in David's ability to go through with it. Cautious optimism indeed.

yeah, the custom engine was nice but you gotta take a faster path to completion, some developers will cut loads to finish a game, games like stalker and shadow of the colossus were released with half the content that was originally planned, atleast you don't need to do this.

As long as Overgrowth doesn't become extremely slow on me then I'm fine with the switch. :)

Don't want to get a new pc to play my favorite game.

Basically this,
I don't want OG to eat my computer.

As opposed to what it seems to be doing right now on weaker machines...

I actually do not have a very strong computer, but Overgrowth tends to run fine. Besides a few frame rate problems whenever the action gets really heavy.

I'm the same. My Overgrowth runs quite smoothly unless there's a lot of characters or I'm in a busy level. Otherwise it's pretty good!

It'd be in poor taste if it was.
And the last few years of April Fool's have been quite ridiculous. I doubt this is an April Fool's prank.

The unreal engine is quite nice, I am not against this at all if it means faster dev time.

Speaking of April Fools though... are they not doing something this year? I don't see a blog post :(

Seems like a good decision... but this late? Can they really port the entire game?

Yeah, 5 years after development, is it?
I highly doubt that they're starting from scratch. If I'm not mistaken, a lot of the code is portable to UE4. Don't they both use the same language?
And David said that both engines are, more or less, structured the same.
He also said that one of the 'difficult' complications would be the physics system. Phoenix uses Bullet, while UE4 uses PhysX, I think.
Having said that, if the physics are one of the most difficult things in that change, I guess the rest of the stuff can easily be ported.

Be warned that a lot of what I just said is backed by virtually nothing. :)
