I think this is a cache problem. Might try deleting it.

This happens in-game with almost all weapons, even now. Wolves hover their hand under staffs and spears, rabbits insert knives into their palms, and dogs clip every object through themselves at some point.

If it was a cache issue, I'd be ok deleting it now and again, but the current state of this bug is outright annoying. I can't even hold a rat bag without half of it clipping through the hand of every character. I think it's the positions of the hand slots that's off a ways. It's a bit of a nitpick, but It would be nice to have it fixed.
