What really set Overgrowth apart from other games for you?

Post by Meeko011 » Thu Feb 02, 2017 7:15 am

For me:
  • I'm actually good at it.
  • There's something akin to a body destruction engine.
  • Slow motion fighting, where the slow motion actually has a huge impact on gameplay (you suck less).
  • The insane skillcap. If you can dodge and block attacks right, you can take on 5 equally strong enemies, or many more much stronger enemies (wolves).
  • Nothing is scripted. You are thrust into a level and left to your own devices.
  • The vast number of forces involved in a fight in such a short time.

This. Also the fact that I was getting into rabbit knife fights to begin with. I don't think I ever played a game where I could get into a knife fight with a rabbit.

The combat just feels really solid. I can't really describe it. I guess it's a combination of the attacks, ragdoll, and sound.

  • Good physics based combat games are rare.
  • Ragdolls :P
  • Tight combat mechanics

Davids vision! The alpha videos that tell what the author wants the game to be. That feels, to me, like a story telling platform! I have also loved watching the game get better, and worse, over time. I hope that the new devs watch all of the early alpha videos, and that David keeps a strong rein and finishes features before releasing new ones. A la my second favorite alpha elite:dangerous which cant finish a basic before a new release! karate rabbits whats not to love!!
