Q1 2009 -> Q2 2009
Q1 2009 -> Q2 2009
Hey guys, as we are working more and more on OG, it is looking like our original estimate of Q1 2009 is going to be a bit too ambitious and we'd like to revise our estimate to Q2 2009. :<
We think that the extra development time will give us a more generous buffer for beta testing, adding a lot of content, and just making the game better. This will also let me sleep better at night because it gives us some more buffer on Google Chrome's development schedule, which is used heavily on OG.
The last thing we want to do is rush Overgrowth out the door, especially now that we have Steam and Overgrowth is starting to get some serious attention, first impressions really count! I know that we mentioned Q1 2009 on the preorder website, so if this is a deal breaker for anyone, please contact me and I can give you a refund.
Thanks for the support!

It's a good idea. Rushed games end up terrible.
Besides, if you still put out the alphas, it's the same as playing the final version near the end so it's not THAT bad.

so no problem at all here. We'll still be playing the game even if the release isn't final.

Re: Q1 2009 -> Q2 2009
I wasn't expecting a Q1 release actually. Sorry to hear you had to be like many game developers and push back a release date, hehe. Anyways, if people can't wait a few months extra for this game and cancel their pre-orders, they're going to be real sorry when it -does- come out. Heh.
Besides, if OFP2 -is- released in Spring of 2009 then I'll have fun things to do in the meantime =P

Haha, indeed.
Oh, and the new blog entry - Good to see our preordering money is being put into good use =D

I'm really looking forward to the game, but I can wait. I-I can wait... *rocks slowly back and forth*
w-w-wait...
But for reals though, I don't mind; a rushed product wouldn't benefit anyone.

Re: Q1 2009 -> Q2 2009
To be honest anyone who was a bit realistic here wasn't expecting that date. As long as you keep pumping out those alphas your core fans will stick to you and it won't even matter anymore how much more it's delayed. As the fans know exactly why and can see the reason for themselves.
The only people the final release will benefit are the people who haven't heard of OG imo. As the real fans have already preordered and are enjoying the alphas/builds. So the message is to take your time and don't worry about a release date.

I'm totally for this. Rushed games suck.
