Will there be Audio/Taunts in OG?
Re: Will there be Audio/Taunts in OG?
What I did notice, is that some games have the voice-chat system implemented directly into the game itself. Take Vendetta Online. If you're in a group and have voice chat active, all you need is a microphone to speak to the members of said group. And you don't even need that for hearing them!
I do believe they've had help from teamspeak for this, though. It might need further investigation.

I preferred the animal noises to most of the voice acting I've heard in other games.

Well, some taunts that sound anamalistic would be good.Groveller wrote:I preferred the animal noises to most of the voice acting I've heard in other games.
take this one for instance:

Heres one that may also do good:

This would be good for a pain sound:

There should be 3 types of anamal sounds: Pain, Panic, taunt/talk. each sound sounds different in feeling.

1st one is too much, 2nd might work if its used only partially and 3rd is just awesome
Re: Will there be Audio/Taunts in OG?
No, taunts are wholly unnecessary.

Truly, Tally has a point.
Re: Will there be Audio/Taunts in OG?
Sorry to necro this, but reading this gave me an idea that might be able to serve a dual purpose.
First, if online multiplayer is introduced, a taunt/command system would allow for quick, simple, character-relevant communications.
Second, if there will be non-player allies in the game, why not have a way to be able to command the nearby ones?
Things like "wait" "follow me" "retreat" and "defend" would be useful ways of tactically manipulating your allies. This could also help give the game more immersivity-- especially if allies and foes can "speak" with the player.
If the things that allies and enemies say as the game progresses are editable on a per-level or even per-event basis, the way the player experiences those interactions could easily be affected by their choices and play-style.
That being said, extensive voice-overs are not something I am advocating. I like the animal noises with text that existed in Lugaru. If allies and enemies spoke in text, using maybe five or six different sounds to express emotion, that (for me) would be ideal.

I'm gonna have to cosign Johannes' and BeefPop's posts.
This is a very interesting idea. It shouldn't be looked over.
