Alpha 9 Links

Post by Jeff » Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:37 am

The Alpha 9 leaked build is here! A "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It is not condoned by David, Phillip, and Aubrey, but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly!

There are some rumors about a blessed build coming in the next couple of weeks.

New in this version: http://blog.wolfire.com/2009/01/overgrowth-alpha-9/

P.S. be sure to delete your shadow caches! Just delete the whole Program Files/Wolfire Games/Overgrowth directory and you should be fine.
ahruman wrote:For Mac OS X, the cache lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Lugaru 2/Data/.
Also, press P to toggle wireframe stuff.

Uploading now.
Windows: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a9-win.msi
Mac OS X: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a9-mac.zip (warning: might not work right now)

Unfortunately I had some trouble with the PPC again this week -- Chrome does not work on PPC right now, which is ok because we can just disable it, but I did not have time to figure out how to conditionally exclude it in Xcode, so hopefully next week!

A Linux build is currently being worked on by Ryan Gordon -- it will be coming soon (?). Sorry for the delay. :<

a9-win.msi is, for me, a 231 byte file containing the following text.

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access Denied</Message><RequestId>6F0BDA423FCFA331</RequestId><HostId>H6P+lKqunHcCeGR9K5R/no/Skr1bOYpl/EQWKS521x5cGzzE/tj8EIypWNw7bDAI</HostId></Error>
So not quite as awesome as I was expecting.

Looks like more permissions issues on the server… We had one of those in Alpha 1 or something, didn't we?

Hey guys, there was a massive power outage in Berkeley, so my uploads were canceled. Sorry about that, you will have to wait for them to finish tomorrow. :( It's not a permission issue, it's a "file does not exist" issue.

CrazyWolfie, PPC is finished, but Chrome's V8 engine does not support it yet. We are going to try to plug in WebKit's JavascriptCore to get you guys PPC sooner. Sorry to disappoint you.

Alpha 9 works fine on my Mac (Intel iMac). Yay! Alpha 7 and 8 didn't work for me so it's nice to see it working so well now ;)

One question... is copy & paste implemented for the Mac yet? Couldn't get it to work.

Broken under 10.4.11 on a 1st gen Macbook Pro.

Crash Log:

Code: Select all

Date/Time: 2009-01-13 10:47:30.404 -0800
OS Version: 10.4.11 (Build 8S2167)
Report Version: 4

Command: lugaru2
Path: /Applications/Games/Overgrowth A9.app/Contents/MacOS/lugaru2
Parent: WindowServer [68]

Version: ??? (???)

PID: 7425
Thread: Unknown

Link (dyld) error:

Symbol not found: _NSDefaultRunLoopMode
  Referenced from: /Applications/Games/Overgrowth A9.app/Contents/MacOS/libAwesomium.dylib
  Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/Versions/A/CoreFoundation
Although I do understand if 10.4 support is not considered valuable if Overgrowth isn't targeted to come out until after 10.6 :)

It is not implemented in the legacy console (where you type the auth stuff) that will be replaced by the hot Chrome stuff.

Yeah, sounds like it's 10.5 only. It's vaguely possibly it could be fixed by putting a copy of 10.5's CoreFoundation.framework into *.app/Contents/Frameworks, then using install_name_tool on the executable to change it to link to that instead... But only vaguely possible, because CoreFoundation links to a bunch of stuff in /usr/lib.

I am pretty sure that the 10.4 compatibility issues are due to Google Chrome. Hopefully, we will have it sorted out soon! Thanks for your patience -- when you guys see the UI, you will understand why it's cool. ;)
