Unofficial, alpha 15 weekly build

Post by Jeff » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:23 am

The unofficial, alpha 15 leaked build is here!

A "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David, Phillip, and Aubrey, but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly! Please report bugs in Trac! http://trac.wolfire.net/spf/overgrowth

New in this version: (see blog)

Also, press P to toggle wireframe stuff. Press 8 and 9 to toggle the Rabbot. Press ` for the console.

We are testing out BitTorrent again this week! Please let me know how that goes.
Windows: (direct) (torrent)
Mac OS X: (direct) (torrent)

Ryan Gordon is in charge of the Linux build. No word on that yet -- he will probably wait until we are further along.

Note! No PPC or 10.4 Tiger support at the moment -- we are waiting on Chrome for these. We are not sure when this will happen.

Is there any word on when this Chrome thing will come into existence?

There's still something wrong with the torrent download. :(

I have a red down arrow (Image) in my µTorrent client.

I hope you can solve this, I always like helping good companies upload their files.

After six hours, the windows torrent is nearly 70% done.

First quick impressions:

Mac still can't move/rotate/scale along normal without snapping to grid.

Snapping still doesn't work correctly: http://jo-shadow.com/Public/Johannes/Mo ... d_Bug.html

Terrain Wireframe is still annoyingly transparent and a strange artifact occurs in the skymap generation

Group color rules seem to have been changed as well, color only showing the difference between groups:

However group rotation and scaling works much smoother than it did before when a large number of objects is selected.

Love the new Rocks/Statues, but can't wait for controlled intersections to be implemented.

Unless you're on a pc, of course, then I wouldn't know...

This is how it looks on my PC, I must set "shaders 0" in order to run and not all models are seen, I can only see leaves.

Personal Preference, The faded away edges I find to be even less "realistic" than the straight edge. I think that at least with the forest type map, there should be really dense foliage around the edges. Unless the map is made on a globe, Edges with be a large sticking spot. Also, this might have been talked about before, but I think that a circular map would work much better than a square one

Oh yea, Great job so far! Keep up the good work!
