Unofficial, alpha 25 weekly build

Post by Jeff » Tue May 05, 2009 2:24 am

The unofficial, alpha 25 leaked build is here!

A "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David, Phillip, and Aubrey, but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly! Please report bugs in Trac! http://trac.wolfire.net/spf/overgrowth

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps not intended for public consumption.

It is fine and encouraged to give us feedback in SPF, but we've been having a lot of trouble with people publicly dumping on our alphas without respect for the fact that most people do not understand what an early alpha is and will therefore assume that Wolfire does not support Linux, makes games that run at 2 FPS, etc.

New in this version: (see blog)

Also, press F to toggle wireframe stuff. Press 8 and 9 to toggle the Rabbot. Press ` for the console. Type Console.help() for the console commands. Press b to spawn a physics box, right click to drag it around. Press r to spawn a ragdoll and F1 for WebKitten.

We are testing out BitTorrent DNA this week! Please let me know how that goes.
Windows: (direct) (torrent) (BitTorrent DNA)
Mac OS X: (direct) (torrent) (BitTorrent DNA)

Subscribe to the dev blog!

Note! No PPC, 10.4 Tiger, or Linux support at the moment -- we are waiting on Google Chrome for these. We are not sure when this will happen.

Mac is almost done uploading, but the Windows build should finish uploading in about an hour.

can't wait to make some races

EDIT

whoah!

hmm, this weeks seems quite buggy.

Theres no main menu??? is this a pre-curser to something better?

the rag-doll physics make rabbot look fat. He's not even really like rabbot any more. I think we need a new name for this guy.

Jeff accidentally disabled the alpha menu on the mac, it's still the same. (I Also asked that, on the IRC ;) )

Rabbot has an actual ragdoll applied to the animation now. You can drag it with right click just like you can normal ragdolls that you can drop with 'R'. Before it gets cleaned up more later ofcourse it looks a little off (or rather drunk  ) right now. He'll look like rabbot again in no time =)

does the screen go completely white? because that is a general issue, caused seemingly randomly

no. It happens when i press 8 on foothold map. There is no exeptions, and that's the only one map where I encountered this bug.
I have a windows error-message : this program stopped working ( don't know the exact 'english' translation of this error message -> i'm french).

control+3 (cmd+3) changes you into hotspot mode (no visible indicator to tell you that this is the case). when you click 'add object' then it will open the hotspot browser. pressing h will also place a hotspot.
control+1 (cmd+1) changes it back to object mode.

I still can't seem to get post effects working either, and as with last week I think I am doing everything right =/

I now know why the line:

Code: Select all

Graphics.setPostEffects(true);
in timer_level_script.js is commented out. If you like seeing where you're going dont uncomment it :P

I'm gonna mess with the hotspots to see what I can do with it. If we get some interesting ones it might be worth adding them to the downloader or something.

In future alphas do you plan on look in the cutom folder for things like object and scripts to use in these built in browsers?
