Unofficial, alpha 56 weekly build

Post by Jeff » Tue Dec 08, 2009 1:30 am

The unofficial, alpha 56 leaked build is here!

A "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David and Aubrey but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly! Please report bugs in our Trac system!

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps not intended for public consumption.

New in this version: (see blog)

To download the alpha, use one of these two links:

Win: http://www.wolfire.com/spf-download/a56-win.zip
Mac: http://www.wolfire.com/spf-download/a56-mac.zip

Subscribe to the dev blog!

Note! No PPC, 10.4 Tiger, or Linux support at the moment -- we are waiting on Awesomium for these. AJS says that Linux support is on the horizon, but we cannot make any concrete estimates for it. In the meantime, we are Wine compatible.

I still get TONS of "not found, loading default, oh didn't find that either" errors. Will make a ticket this time.

Hmm, mac version just quits out when you choose a map in the main menu, after loading for a minute or so. can't even get into the editor, and it doesn't even show an error :(
But there's always next week!

Yep same here, I'm on Windows XP 32 bit.
Here's a picture showing what the error messages said, they came one after another and seemed to go on almost forever:

I've tested it on the same pc as previous time, and I get the same errors:

Steps followed:
- Downloaded latest OG Alpha for Windows to a pc with a Geforce 7600GS vidcard
- Extract to D:\Games\Overgrowth
- Change the resolution in config.txt to 1024x768 windowed (nice and small, and i don't have a widescreen at that workstation)
- Start Lugaru2.exe
- Click the 'Abandoned Grove'-map
- Wait for the game to load
- Game is loaded, but the screen isn't redrawn. Ambient sound can be heard (wind etc)
- First error is shown:

Offtopic: I'm running the Dutch Windows XP Pro (32bit), translations of the buttons: [Annuleren]=[Cancel], [Opnieuw]=[Again] and [Doorgaan]=[Continue]
- After pressing Continue:

- At this point, get tired of making screenshots and press Cancel to close the game.

This sequence repeats forever, and no single frame is drawn whatsoever. Hopefully this details help. :)

Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

Oops, I forgot to correct the capitalization of the dds files. Will fix for the next alpha.

Unfortunately, I probably will not be able to figure out what is going on in the Windows build, since I only have my Mac in Lyon! Will fix ASAP.

AJS says so, he told me that he was going to launch the new Awesomium in December, so hopefully soon! That is the latest info I have.
