Unofficial alpha 69, weekly build

Post by Jeff » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:33 pm

The unofficial, alpha 69 leaked build is here!

A "leaked build" is when John and I grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David and Aubrey but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly! Please report bugs in our Trac system!

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps not intended for public consumption.

New in this version: (see blog)

To download the alpha, use one of these links (please use the mirrors!)

Win: slow original fast mirror 1 fast mirror 2
Mac: slow original fast mirror 1 fast mirror 2

Please use the speedy mirrors, they are graciously provided by Mow of FoCo Gaming and should provide much faster download speeds. They will also save us a lot of money. :D

Note! No PPC, 10.4 Tiger, or Linux support at the moment -- we are waiting on Awesomium for these. AJS says that Linux support is on the horizon, but we cannot make any concrete estimates for it. In the meantime, we are Wine compatible.

I have a PPC; so, I have nothing to add. Normally, I wouldn't post, but I feel the need to say:
Heh, "69" ;D

40 minutes remaining on the download for me. I'm excited to see what's going on.

It's really exciting to see some more animations being implemented, although I hope the current crouching animation gets refined.

I noticed that, if you hold the space bar (i.e. have Robbert jump right after landing) there isn't a smooth transition into the jumping animation. It just cuts to the jump.

"Wine" and "compatible" in the same sentence

Guess I'll give it another try - it's never worked for me though...

Please forgive me if this is a known issue or there's something obvious I'm overlooking, but a69 does not launch for me. a61 (the last build I had a chance to download) still launches fine.

I'm on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Radeon X1600, OS 10.6.2 -- if that makes a difference.

I get the following output to Console when I try to open a69:

I'm still getting a side by side configuration error when I try to run overgrowth.exe. I went into the event viewer and found this.

Code: Select all

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Wolfire\Overgrowth - A69\Overgrowth.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4016_none_d0893820442e7fe4.manifest. Component 2: C:\Program Files\Wolfire\Overgrowth - A69\Microsoft.VC80.CRT.MANIFEST.
I'm running Vista 32-bit and I've tried reinstalling all the visual c++ redistributables but still no change. Alpha 67 worked fine for me so I think this has something to do with the change to overgrowth.exe.

Eager to try this one out.
I am still amazed at how you guys deliver. Every week you give us a new alpha. Every week you show us what you do. You won't go silent for six months and then show up with a single picture of your progress. You guys rule for being so dedicated!

Side by side configuration usually had something to do with Visual C++ runtime redistributable. Try the solution from the FAQ, if that doesn't work try to get a newer version of that redistributable somewhere.
