Unofficial Overgrowth a118, weekly build

Post by Jeff » Tue Feb 15, 2011 1:37 am

The unofficial, Overgrowth a118-1 leaked build is here!

(watch in hd)

Changelog:
- Testing animated textures with tga sequence and theora video
- Set up VTune profiler with frames and thread labels
- Fixed occlusion query and FBO bottleneck
- Disabled tilted head-look on wolf

A "leaked build" is when John and I grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David and Aubrey but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly!

*NEW* If you find any bugs, please email a full description along with your system specs to [email protected]. We are testing out a new bug system.

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps not intended for public consumption.

To download the alpha, use one of these links (please use the mirrors!)

Win (exe): slow original fast EU mirror 1 *new* fast US mirror 1 BitTorrent - please seed
MD5 = 45a52513783262f6301d7415aff62770

Mac: slow original fast EU mirror 1 *new* fast US mirror 1 BitTorrent - please seed
MD5 = fb8f8a9a18e9170671af7d7cfe8978a1

Please use the speedy mirrors, they are all graciously provided by Mow of FoCo Gaming and should provide much faster download speeds. They will also save us a lot of money. :D

Note! No Linux support at the moment -- we are waiting on Awesomium for these. AJS says that Linux support is on the horizon, but we cannot make any concrete estimates for it. In the meantime, we are working with the creator of Berkelium to switch to that, which has a Linux build, so we will no longer be dependent on Awesomium.

The installer may be missing a file... I will look into this. Sorry about that!

I've added missing files and it gave me a C++ error. Something about wrong, unsupported way of running Visual DLLs

I'm downloading the a118 build now. After checking a few of the posts above me I get the feeling something is wrong with this full build?
Should I download a117 and then patch it up to a118 or is this fixed..?

Thanks! 1gb is a lot for my line and will take a while, hehe :) Excited to test and play!

Hey, I'm running it for mac, I only downloaded the update to 118 instead of the whole compiled version as its to big to download. In the mac version if your careful to copy the files across into the folders and not copy the folders themselves (as this will delete pretty much all core files, nearly a gigs worth like I accidentally done once before :/) it works perfectly fine, although I did copy the GLSL and scripts to both the DATA and Resources folders with the mac folder set up as I wasn't sure if it needed both locations but it still works without any problems

Looks like a118 is linked with debug version of CRT. I don't think, that VS2005 Redist package contains them and bare dlls aren't enough to run it (it also needs manifest file I guess). One possible solution is installing Visual C++ 2005 Express. It is free and you should still be able to find it somewhere. Didn't try it personally though.

EDIT: Of course, all of this is about Windows version only.
