WolfBrother9393's Overgrowth Platform Maps

Post by wolfbrother9393 » Sun Feb 20, 2011 2:20 pm

The Maps are fixed!...again!
To play, download and install the files to this directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfire\Overgrowth\Data\Levels\Project60 (macs, right click and open you Overgrowth application and follow a similar path)
Load Overgrowth and click on whatever map file that my map has replaced.

Dog Training
3.jpg
This is how I imagined the training courses for the Dog race to be, if you wanted a bit of backstory.
This map replaces the Patchy Highlands map.

Garrison
4.jpg
What is this alien, ruined structure? A garrison? A temple? And old place of worship? A prison? Not much is sure, but it's a pretty fun place to jump around in. Just don't fall!
This map replaces the Painted Desert map.

The Garrison map was particularly fun. Instead of having a rigidly built map so that there was only one way to complete it I experimented with giving the player a bit more liberty in their movement. As the map progresses, it becomes more specific and you have to find certain ways to progress.
At first it was too hard so I color coded specific blocks using the tint tool. That was probably the most important part to keep it from becoming frustrating.

Hope you enjoy it!

The below is the original first post. It is outdated and the links it included were broken. See above for the working levels.
I am currently developing platforming maps for your entertainment. When the full game is released I plan on making a campaign that'll be super sweet, including combat and platforming to give it a unique pacing compared to Lugaru and how I assume Overgrowth will be.

The following file is my first map.
1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg
I named it before I finished so I know it looks nothing like an obelisk. That'll come later.
Whenever I try to change the name the map reverts to one of the other Overgrowth maps.
PLZ let me know if you know how to fix this.

This series will be called Overgrowth: Training Courses
This one, I thought of as the Dog Training Course.
Hopefully some dogs will be implemented into the engine soon and we can put some actual dogs in there!

Also I'm working on putting it on ModDB, here:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/overgrowth-training-courses

Thanks for Checking it out!

When I play it I've been instinctively holding down the space bar and pressing against the wall, and pressing it again to jump off. Hope that helps.

I just played around with copying different versions of the same file and I'm not sure what the problem is.
I'm using Alpha 118 so maybe that has something to do with it...?

My school has macs, I'm using a windows machine. Tomorrow I'll take it to school with me and see if I can't fix it on one of their computers. Thanks for hanging with me.

Here's a video I made of the map.

Enjoy!

I am using windows, and all I get when I start it is the patch forest or whatever with a solid blue sky-box and pitch black shadows.

I went back to Silverfish's map that he made and he put the file in the
C:/Program Files/Wolfire/Overgrowth/Data/Levels/Project60 Folder. I tried it on the windows computer and still encountered no problems. Try putting this there.
Obelisk.zip

I'll be testing out the mac later today.

Silverfish's map can be found here: http://blog.wolfire.com/2011/02/Silverf ... form-level

EDIT:
If the above doesn't work you can try this.
I want to know why Silverfish's map works and mine doesn't...
I found these three files in My Documents/Wolfire/Overgrowth/Data/Textures/Skies/
blue4.tga_Obelisk_files.zip
(1.17 MiB) Downloaded 594 times
EDIT:EDIT:

My Documents/Wolfire/Overgrowth/Data/Textures/Terrain/patchy_highlands/ My Documents/Wolfire/Overgrowth/Data/Textures/Terrain/ShadowMaps
Obelisk0.png
Place all of these files, extracted, into their respective folders and it might work.

Let me know if that works. I'll continue to scour these files for something of use.

I downloaded all the files and put them in my folders, but it still loads patchy highlands. The only difference is that it has a normal skybox :(

I don't know if I'll be able to get the map to work, but first could someone please download and try this map out to see if I can get it to work?
