Re: Deer character (Comments, suggestions, etc. welcome)
Another small update today:
Busied myself trying to improve various parts of the anatomy, but still working off that old model.
Referenced this, which I saw linked by Endo somewhere else. Turned out to be really helpful. (Thanks, Endo.)
Still needs some tweaks, but I might stop here, because I'm a bit worried how details like those might look when the arm bends (if it'll look funny or the muscles be out of place, etc.). Maybe shift some things around some more before I'm done.

Eh. Maybe I'm a bit delusional, but I'm pretty sure I saw you link it in someone's WIP thread... Or maybe it was the one Adwuga thread I saw it linked in.
-searching... searching... searching... ding!-
Here it is. I followed the picture to that blog. ...Then again, that post is from two years ago.
I'll try to get updates in at least weekly to keep up some sort of progress on this.
(Looking back at the first WIP I showed you guys, it's really improved since then. )
EDIT: (Man... I'm just bad at keeping promises.)

I'll try and see if I can improve the likeness to a deer, then. Or at least see where you're coming from on that.elegaro wrote:it kind a look like a bull

Yeah, I've changed my browser and lost my bookmarks since that time.NecroBite wrote:Eh. Maybe I'm a bit delusional, but I'm pretty sure I saw you link it in someone's WIP thread... Or maybe it was the one Adwuga thread I saw it linked in.

Here. Obligatory silly deer picture while I work on improving the face.
...So far, I think I've just made him look grumpier. No school tomorrow, so I can work on it more (not that laziness isn't my primary problem... it is). Should have some progress up later today, edited into this post if not made into a new one.

More update...
Finished this attempt at fixing up his face. Still not a very strong sculpt from the front, but I think I'll move on to other things for now and come back to it when I can have fresh eyes for it.
Not sure if it's actually more deer like, but here's for now. Thoughts?
EDIT: Also angled his tail a little lower, so that it didn't look quite so perky... or more neutral, whatever you prefer.
EDIT 2: Improved the shape of his hooves.

I wouldn't worry too much about something in an small view angle.
I kind of liked the larger ears though *shrug*
Although, I don't think most people will care for small details... For example, if you made a deer character (like the one you have) and said "This is a frog". Well, people will say "It looks more like a ____" (deer, probably). If you said however "This is a deer", almost no one will say "well the ears are a bit small".
It looks good. Looks like you may have some UV or normal errors in the center, but that's probably not hard to correct.

If that's Sculptris, that center line is actually the line of symmetry display.
Also, tfw observing your own complete lack of knowledge in 3d modelling and anatomy depresses you beyond belief.

That's a familiar feeling... Which means I probably shouldn't visit the ZBrush forums any time soon.Korban3 wrote:Also, tfw observing your own complete lack of knowledge in 3d modelling and anatomy depresses you beyond belief.
Oh. Enzo. I actually did try to separate the head from the body. Blender seems to be a bit glitched at the moment (won't mirror topology as I work), but I'm working on it to see if it would fix the problems I'm having.
Got
Updated the first post with a picture of current progress. Nothing too noticeable at the moment.
Re: Deer character (Comments, suggestions, etc. welcome)
If Blender isn't mirroring your topology, you can always manually cut your model in half and use the mirror modifier. More reliable and consistent.

Been doing that, actually. Useful, but occasionally annoying.Korban3 wrote:If Blender isn't mirroring your topology, you can always manually cut your model in half and use the mirror modifier. More reliable and consistent.
Thanks for the tip.

That looks awesome, don't stop!
