Suspension2 Custom Parkour Map (Updated and now with video)

Post by Horridius » Tue Jan 10, 2012 12:29 pm

I finally finished the Suspension2 map. I'm sure everyone who played the original Suspension map remember it for the difficulty and falling to your dead a hundred times. It's back! Now with more parkour tracks, weapons and ... something secret.

This map was made in the style of counter-strike/team fortress surf maps. Although it is more lineair but I maybe will expand the map later into a less lineair map. I see this map being played in a deathmatch game (in the maybe future multiplayer) with instant respawn after death. Where the best players get to collect weapons which they can then use to kill other players in an epic combination of parkour and combat.

Note: this is a map for advanced wall jumpers, if you're still a beginner you can always try. There also is a small training parkour (without risks of falling to your death) on the ground level.

Note: there was an incident where the location of where my Og maps are saved was changed, which caused me to upload an outdated version of my map. The problem is now solved and I uploaded the final version along with the outdated (although I changed the spawn point  ) which is now called Suspension2Light.xml. This version has less objects and some parkour parts not included.

Also make sure you have all skyboxes:

I chose to build further upon the Suspension map made by Jacktheawesome (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12181) because the simple design made it possible to have a long parkour track without the map being laggy. Although for Suspension2 map you will need to have a decent computer (I was able to run it on my mid-range laptop) but not a high end pc.

Like in the original map, some objects have colours. I also implemented some new colours.

-Red and Blue: Like in the original, these are to avoid confusion. If two or more objects close to eachother are both red or both blue then it means you have to get from the first object to the other objects in the same colour.

-Green: Objects with weapons on them.

-Purple: Objects which help you get down to the ground (or some lower parkour part) without you taking fall damage. This was done with the maybe later multiplayer in mind (claim a weapon at the end of the parkour and go kill other players who are still on the first levels of the map).

-Light Green: This colour marks the basic parkour training course on the ground for players who want to learn the basics of wall jumping.

-Yellow: This is a colour you probably will never touch without cheating.

Wow! Can't wait to try this out... (but have to wait till I'm done with work...)

I'll also add it to the Menu Mod... but I've never credited two creators before... I'll have to see how that works out. (SUM will help solve this in the future, as we're allowing for teams to be credited :) )

Thanks Anton :D . Also another thanks for hosting the ogmods website, it's really helpful for distributing maps and other Overgrowth related files. Never knew you could upload your own files until now.

So very cool additions... still figuring out the best way to start that level... By the way, your jump hotspots are not working now. I think David "fixed" the problem with them with this update, but it should be easy enough to mod back in.

Hmm, are you sure you extracted the jumpboost.xml and jumpboost.as files in the right folder? Because that is how I "modded" it back in. I made the map on a163/a165 so that is after the fix and it worked for me.

It was a mistake on my end... oddly, running my own mod updater fixed my problem... working now. :) Sorry for the confusion... (by the way... this is in the the Menu Mod)

I don't know, but data/textures/skies is where skyboxes go.

The issue where I uploaded an outdated version of my map is now solved. You can now download the final version where the spawn point is actually located at the start. Also the "stairs" that take can take you downwards without taking damage and some other stuff are now included.

Nice! Glad we get to finally play the real version.

I've updated the menu mod with the new full version. You will also download the light version, but I haven't made a link in the game to it yet...

So is this really hard or am I spectacularly skilled at failing?
Either one of those, or I'm completely missing the point, 'cos after the first jump, my next destination is always ground.

Training ground bit is fun, but I can't seem to get more than three walljumps* in before Rabbot refuses to register the wall as a walkable surface, meaning I simply drop down again.

*Edit: That is, when doing forward-running walljumps. Not when doing the vertical ones, those work fine.
