[Map] Lush Tree Canyon

Post by Constance » Thu Nov 22, 2012 4:15 am

Everyone's felt that Tree canyon looks dried up and bland as a twig. That's why I've gone and made it full of bright green scenic grass, so now it doesn't look so desolate and depressing.

Looks much much more colorful and happier now, doesn't it?

And with baked shadows/Ambient Occlusion:

I'd say the black rocks contrast too unpleasantly with the green of the rest of the map. It looks too awkward.

Saying that 'everyone' thought that Tree Canyon looks dried up and bland as a twig is a bit of an assumption. I thought Tree Canyon's style was great because it's unique and shows another side of Overgrowth.

But it's great to see a brightened version just because now we can compare two very different versions of the same levels.

Yeah, I thought it looked really good when it was so dark and dry too, I was just bored and thought of how the .xml files worked, which led to this map.

I'm also pretty sure it was designed to look really dark and cold.

Wow, that really changed how the map feels. I like it!

Changing the objects in the level to a lighter tint really made a difference:

I've never really bothered to do it by myself, but damn that looks much better! Did you have to go through the whole map and select each rock?

I just hit ctrl+a to select all the objects in the level. The bridge being lightened too looked fine I thought.
