[MAP] The Ironpaw Bandits

Post by manbearpig » Sat Apr 05, 2014 9:16 pm

Hello all,

Here is my map that took between 2 and 30 hours to make.

It has elements of platforming, parkour, stealth, combat, and many little tidbits of story along the way.

The story:
You awake to a knock at your door, where you find a young child who delivers you a message. It says that bandits have overrun the town, and being a capable warrior living on the outskirts, you are the obvious choice to ask for help. You are delivered your trademark twin swords, and you must climb up the dormant volcano that the multi-layered town is built on top of and inside, searching through the rich and poor districts for the lost chief to restore order and balance.

This is a very detailed map, and even I cannot run it at a steady 30 frames. If you are fortunate enough to have a beastly computer, and you're in for a detailed, story heavy mission to save the day, then this is the map for you.

Dependencies: Skyboxes, Painted Skyboxes, Old China, fixes.

Have you got what it takes to save the town and topple the bandits?

Sorry for that, could you tell me what errors you get so I can fix it? A main problem I had was the map was too much for my laptop to handle and it just crashed it.

Also, are you sure you have all the dependencies?

I could run it, but I get an error where it says that the texture format is wrong...

Thanks :D i must have been missing one of them. The map looks great, my computer's too crappy to run it at a decent framerate though :(

It's probably a problem with you not having Skyboxes.

If not, then what you can try doing is loading up the SUMlauncher, going file>delete local files>overgrowth cache files>OK.

Sorry to hear that. I'm making the sequel currently, and I'm trying to use as little resources as possible while retaining good detail so everyone can play it, not just the lucky few with great computers.

Sorry for bumping, but I'll just add a bit of info:

To install, get the SUMlauncher, install Jacktheawesome's map, Sumair and all of its dependencies. Get Markus: Old China. Overwrite Sumair with the new XML.

-I used none of his Jacktheawesome's, only the SUMlauncher installed format, with the folders and the way the game recognises SUMlauncher. I overwrote the XML with mine. I used Sumair because it used the map, red shards which was the map I originally made the XML on.

Now, the bad/good news:
I played it on my new PC. Specs:

INTEL i7 4790K 4.0GHz
Nvidia GTX970 4GB
windows 7 home premium
16gb DDR3 1600MHz RAM

Running it at 1080p, probably runs far better in 720p but meh.

The map is playable, but at about 80 percent speed. It slows down time a little, but the frames remain above 30 (can anyone explain this?) It's good, in that its playable, but bad in that you need a beastly supercomputer to run it decently. The map still needs a few edits.

Also, apart from removing AI (which there are a lot, and they are probably the reason for the lack of speed) is there a way to make it run even faster, without going and removing the detail from the models I created?

Thanks for reading. This is 90 percent of my experience with modding/custom content. It would be so incredible and such a great experience if things just worked. (looking at you, skyrim)
