Sprinting not working?

I had just watched the first mechanics video, and it said to sprint you repeatedly press w. I tried this, but I'm not sprinting at all. Is there something I'm doing wrong, is my game messed up, or did they take it out in the new build?

You have to lower the gun first in order to sprint.
Press q.

I did notice sometime sprint doesn't work, regardless of the gun being held up or not.

Lower the gun first by pressing Q, same problem when I was new to the game.
