got my own piece to contribute, also wondering if it is possible to recreate this scene using the building blocks in OG. would be interesting.
A cave is hard, because you have to model both the interior and the exterior, and caves tend to be in mountains. Overgrowth's terrain doesn't allow for overhangs or such, all things like that have to be built with models.

However, in your scene, the front area it looks like it's just a stone "wall" with a hole through it. That's much easier to do, since you only need one piece to cap off the hole in the wall. The cave seen in the background would be hard to do, though.

There is no water yet, but it isnt that hard to add in. However, because it hasn't been done yet, you'd need both the art assets (images of flowing water) and the shader that would use it. So water is not possible yet, but will probably be modded in, or perhaps it will even appear officially.

There are different monoliths, but there might not be any spikes yet. They'd be relatively easy to add in, if they don't exist.

It's also possible to define your own sky and ground textures, and create new ground topography from a heightmap, so you could have custom levels. I don't think any modders have brought custom heighmaps into the engine in a while though, so it might be hard finding someone who has the know-how to do it.

So much of that level is doable

I believe caves should be doable by just creating a set of cave assets, just like you do with the buildings. Make a "cave" floor, walls, roof etc. It should even be doable now by careful placing of rocks, except that would be heavy on the CPU.

Yeah, it's perfectly doable. You can't do holes into existing terrain, though, so you're limited in where you can place them though. Having a cave in a high mountain wall like in the pic would be difficult, because it'd require most of that wall being a custom-made object or several. Might still work, though.

two mountains and a roof is really all that is needed (second life trick) so long as it looks right. and the colour correction tool should make it alright

The colour correction tool might help, but the decal tools would also be a great help. Basically, you can project a texture over the areas where the meshes overlap, hopefully hiding the seam.

Dying Breath Wallpaper by WolfBrother9393

Post by wolfbrother9393 » Sun Jun 12, 2011 1:16 pm

Here's a quick wallpaper I cooked up. I wanted something that had a simple color scheme, no ranging trees, nothing too complicated.

The ice served as a good, "blank" background and you can see Turner and a guard lying on the ground after what seems to be an intense battle.

I added the logo at the bottom right because it's awesome and of course, for a wallpaper you need to have a logo! ;)

Hope you like it.

• I am not an Artist.
• I do not draw regularly
• This is actually my second time opening up Photoshop
• I only made this so I can hear SilverFish's sweet Swedish vocals regarding this

I need an Icon for the fan art page portal. Can someone draw one for me?

Just something that will look good at 200x200 pixels.

Cool! That dinosaur is full of win. I'mnot sure it'll make it into the next couple of Alphas, but maybe in another Wolfire game in the future? (WINK! WINK! Do it!) It's a really cool picture, very nice to look at. Might be a little to colorful, but mind if I use it for a desktop wallpaper?
