I think that was a slanted way of him saying that he was wondering what the fuck, kind of like "Me : What The Fuck". Many people put it as "ftw" sometimes though, possibly because the acronym is so commonly banded around that it loses part of its meaning and just becomes a succession of random letters. Or else the thought of "fuck the what" is just amusing.

wtf and ftw is not related at all..
ftw (or 4tw) = for the win.
Urban Dictionary wrote:For The Win
Commonly used among geeks to express their enthusiasm for something, especially in IRC.
a) Cola is best
b) nope, Pepsi is way better
a) Cola FTW!
Edit: That is the most common use anyfish. Urban Dictionary mentions
other meanings too.

I have never seen "ftw" used in a "for the win" fashion. You, Sir, are silly!

I don't know about you, but I've
only seen it used in the 'for the win' context

Logic doesn't equal funny. A sense of humor is required in the understanding of most jokes.

Yes, the only problem is:
"For The Win" is not a joke!
