I have good deal more respect for you to think that you would get your research from anime shows David.
Also I know that sword fighting was not done with edge-to-edge blocking, that would really suck.
Also I am curious, what did you fashion your swords in Lugaru after? They seem kind of formless, like a thick rapier of some sorts.
@ Kalexon It is spelled "useless" and "field" and "Samurai." And the apostrophe is used for showing possesive, not multiple.

As long as you're gonna have a grammar freak-out, it's spelled "apostrophe".

That is quite a collection of blades. Can't wait to see them painted with the blood of one's enemies.
Cleaving/Dismember would be coo. Even if it was less gruesom where a slash to the arm would merly rend that limb useless, rather than have it fly off in a gush of blood.
Watching the enemy try to keep fighting after loosing the use of an arm or a leg (like in SOS) is very cool.
