I'm surprised at the amount of serious replies you got compared to the amount of complaints.

Not to say I'm trolling or anything.

i would not like to see overgrowth end up anything like shadow of the collosus.
i personally don't like team ico's "style", its too formulaic, you know the "luck dragon" in last guardian? its pretty much gonna die, you know this director has only one trick, and thats to make you cry!
having said that, i do like the idea of a tribute mod featuring whaleman as the collossus.

So you're saying that making the music a little more orchestral like Ohtani's works would make it like Shadow of the Colossus?

I´m pretty sure he misunderstood something.
You were referring to the music, not the style of the game(or were you?).

They are trying to put together a volunteer orchestra for OG, but it's still going to be playing the OG theme, but at least it would be orchestrated if they could get the right people.

The volunteer orchestra is not going to be playing the soundtrack to the game. It is purely a piece of music based on the theme from Overgrowth. Sadly we've discovered that getting people to volunteer, vs getting them to actually commit to play their parts, are two different things. Attempting to do the entire score to a game with a volunteer orchestra would be quite difficult.

The volunteer orchestra is not going to be used in game - at least that isn't its purpose. I think it was more about bringing the community together to do a cool project, though really you'd have to talk to Anton/Mikko about that.

ah well, I was reluctant to post that because I didn't know all the details, but I felt the need to be defensive of OG. I see I probably shouldn't have said anything.

maby i havn't heared enough of this guy's music but isn't it very serious and slow? would it not change the tone of the game significantly?
given overgrowth's style i'm thinking it should have very rythmic music, repeating beats, everything in time, Ohtani's works have alot of tension in them and OG's music should be fast and flowing.

orchestral performance vs 1-man studio recording?
when something thats made by one guy with hundreads of dollars, is being compared to something that is made by
hundreds of guys with
millions of dollars, i feel that its completely natural to get defensive.

Don't get me wrong, Markuss. I think that a rhythmic tone fits Overgrowth very well, but I personally think that it should be A LOT more powerful (the ambient stuff is actually fine, but I'm focused on Combat clips). What I've heard thus far from the channel isn't very remarkable and just doesn't do anything for me, probably because it just sounds so derivative. But like Anton said, it's really too early to say anything about it.

While the combat music is not my favourite track, I think that, on the contrary, the derivative choice would be to go for bombastic orchestral pieces like those you posted.
The feel of overgrowth is much more intimate than the combat in Shadow of the Colossus. The focus is on even combat between opponents who can look into each other's eyes and taste one another's blood. The tribalism, the mental and physical combat, the predator-prey relationship, the animalistic nature of it; these are the ideas Mikko's music should evoke -- and does, far better than Ohtani's.
Improvement can certainly be had, to be sure, but I can't help but feel that SotC's music just isn't very memorable melodically or in terms of the more personal emotions. Whereas the powerful brass section and percussive beats of Ohatani's music blend in to the melange of similar pieces I've heard before, I haven't forgotten the first few notes of the Overgrowth theme since I first heard them (nor have I tired of them!). In short, I prefer the OG soundtrack to the SotC one, both in terms of utility and just as pleasurable music.
For me, the music as much as any other aspect of the game demonstrates Wolfire's commitment to quality in each area of their game, and has done just as much to set it apart as Aubrey's art, David's amazing tech work or John's endlessly amusing promotional work.
I know I sound like a mere shill for Wolfire at this point, but, well, I wouldn't have hung around if I didn't think they were doing some things right, and I'm usually pretty hard to please.
(P.S. I haven't read this thread closely at all, and only listened to the tracks you linked, so I don't know how much ground I'm retreading, nor if my response is even particularly accurate/well-formulated, so apologies in the contingencies that I've made an ass of myself)
