Frozen methanol.

You know, I don't get your hostility towards the idea of a thread about multiplayer. I post against specific things I don't like - not the whole thread!
And this thread has been about people disaprroving of this thread for several pages. I feel sorry for Polyoptics.

I'm actually happy that they've put multiplayer in, even though I can't use it. It just shows that they don't want this to be all closed up and down to 1 player. It'd be like halo, but with melee weapons and animals instead of dodgy weapons and some sort of mega block man.

I almost feel as that was directed towards me, even though I haven't done anything you said, which is why I'm pretty sure it wasn'tEndoperez wrote:You know, I don't get your hostility towards the idea of a thread about multiplayer. I post against specific things I don't like - not the whole thread!

But, since you bring it up...
THIS THREAD SUCKS MAKE GOODER THREADS & DONT SUCK AT LIFE.
That wasn't directed at anyone. seriously. No, I'm not kidding. Do I look like I'm kidding?

No worries, I said what I had to say and there have been some good posts. A handful of people have bumped this thread continuously, even though they do it with inane personal chatter and go no where debates, its the internet: can't stop it.Endoperez wrote:You know, I don't get your hostility towards the idea of a thread about multiplayer. From the looks of the blog, multiplayer is on!
I can't wait to see what comes next.. (and I don't mean more crying in this thread Jack/Korban!)

Don't be a bitch. ever.
And it is currently only splitscreen, but hopefully they will expand to LAN and even online later.

I can see your list of synonyms for "disagreeing with me" has grown larger. Pettiness aside, I'm happy to see the multiplayer developments too.polyoptics wrote:From the looks of the blog, multiplayer is on!

It shouldn't be a 'hopefully' - if Wolfire wants a taste of the success companies like Taleworlds, Tripwire, and Mojang have seen, they need the same things that contributed to the initial popularity of those companies flagship games: a flexible and malleable engine capable of supporting a wide variety of community-made content, and a unique and interesting multiplayer element - Overgrowth already has the former so now it's merely a case of implementing the latter.adwuga wrote:And it is currently only splitscreen, but hopefully they will expand to LAN and even online later.
Although admittedly Mount & Blade didn't have multiplayer until Warband, I imagine it saw quite a rise in popularity and marketability with that addition - Wolfire already have more than 12000 preorders amounting to ~$300 000 to put towards full-time development - that pales in comparison to the kind of profits the aforementioned companies have made, but it already shows a great deal of early support and interest - and independent company of 4 raising hundreds of thousands through transparent development ad word-of-mouth alone is quite impressive.
People seem very hesitant to make assessments about whether or not multiplayer will even make it in, but I think Wolfire are fully aware that they will increase the appeal of their game hundredfold once even basic dedicated multiplayer functionality is added - without it, the game will not appeal to even a fraction of the people it has the potential to.
Re: Multiplayer. My personal plea to wolfire.
Well, you put a better spin on pro-multiplayer than I've seen so far.
I'm for multiplayer, I just don't want to see more of these begging threads.
I was thinking today that people here are looking at OG's awesome combat as the only possibility for multiplayer though. Why can't David introduce an online build mode so more than one person can build things in game? This could be used to house perhaps some community city idea or something. It would be pretty useful I think. I was also thinking... no somewhere else. I'll do my best to not derail this thread

Actually Korban, I was thinking the same thing. It could be sort of like a Minecraft server, where people just build stuff, and add to it as a community. Of course within that you could go into robbert mode and have fights and stuff, but I think this sort of thing would actually be cooler than lobbied arena fights.
Re: Multiplayer. My personal plea to wolfire.
I agree. Good job not crying both of you.
This would be cool, and would be helped by some kind of awesome ingame mod manager. It could have a section for mods, which you can turn on or off, and a section for levels, similar(ish) to LBP. That would be awesome.
Also, if we do have multiplayer, the npcs should be removed, and in a different mode, they are just left alone(except for the green box guy, who will be controlled by the party leader), and in a different mode, all the players control the npc's.
