Lugaru 2 will not be one of those games in which you kill a dozen raiders in a couple minutes, and then spend an hour collecting all their stuff and selling it.

There are actually going to be rabbit allies following you around? Who said that? I'm talking about Zantalos's post. And I never mentioned having a magic backpack. Why are you telling me about a conversation I didn't refer to? I'm pretty sure I only said I didn't want some guy following me around carrying stuff.

Are there really going to be times when you need things to be carried around for you? Are there going to be times when you'll need things with you to progress, so much so that you can't carry all you need by yourself?

This is why people call you gramps. You are losing your memory.

I never said carrying the items yourself meant being allowed to carry unlimited amounts, did I? I was sure you wouldn't NEED more than you can carry yourself. So no, I didn't say anything about a magic backpack. And seriously, could you fuck off pretending you're better than me? I'm sorry, but you're taking that joke so it's not even funny anymore.

Don't take things so personally. I misunderstood your post. Instead of jumping out of your rocking chair and knocking over your oxygen tank, you can just clarify yourself.

I'm just kidding. Seriously, don't worry about it.

Yeah, it just gets a bit frustrating when I say something and then every single person here seems to want to disagree with me. It's all good. Bah, I should just not give an opinion in the future.

Damn it, look at this tension! It's hilarious! Seriously. -shakes head- What the hell? It's a forum about FIGHTING RABBITS. How does this turn into hurt feelings? People are the weirdest creatures...

Hey, the internets is serious business! And no, "internets" was not a typo.

Yeah, I guess I was taking these comment like you actually wanted magic backpacks instead of allies. I mean you even said the words 'Magic Backpack!" I had no idea you really meant that helper rabbits were better or err yeah, I guess it should have been obvious you were joking. even if you kept discussing the sillyness of pack rats...

Oh and as for traveling and the map (which means a pretty long post)...
Jeff wrote:Killing is definitely going to be a huge component (fighting is the best part of Lugaru!) but mass item collecting and selling is not. Anyone play Titan Quest? That was the biggest offender of packrat-ism. You literally could call up a portal at will that took you directly to the shopkeeper, so every five minutes when your inventory was full, you'd teleport right to the shopkeeper and unload all your crap on him. Eventually you realize that there is absolutely nothing worth buying though...

Oblivion had it pretty bad too..

The current theory about Lugaru 2's traveling is sort of a MountNBlade style over map when you want to move around.
You know, when you mentioned this game, I had no idea what you were talking about. But after zip made the link, I played that game and it's crazy fun, if you haven't played Mount & Blade, play it (I played it like 4 hours straight the first day, I missed On The Spot live...) . It should easily run on your PC as it can be turned down by alot (disabling bump mapping will take all the lag out of towns). Now the combat is extremely fun, way way better than Oblivion's, but to be honest that map navigator really dissapointed me the first time I went outside, I was expecting things like distant lands so you could just run everywhere (although it wouldn't make sense for Mount & Blade since you move extremely slow, but it sounded fun for Lugaru though), instead it's just a map (similar to Summoner) where you click on where to go and you slowly travel there.

But as you play this way, it becomes apparent that this style is awesome. It has tons more potential than what Oblivion's running around and town teleporting has. In that, you merely run along a path (unless you prefer riding through a forest and loading the scene every 15 seconds), there might be a badguy waiting along the path, but for the most parts it's pretty stale and you'll just end up fast traveling everywhere. But for map movement like mount&blade you get crap loads of potential. The biggest thing is that you get fluid NPC movement rather then just spawnable enemies that wait outside caves or campgrounds. For instance in MountNBlade you'll see caravans traveling from town to town, Manhacks hunting down the local bandits, peasants being chased down by rogue soldiers, or the two armies clashing in battle. And you can basically interact with all of these things, you can save people from bandits, help guard caravans, join in with one of the armies, or even tell slavers which way the criminals went (Which basically means lying and having them look in the same spot for most of the day). And NPC's will interact with you too, you'll get chased down by criminals or military factions (if you sidede with the enemy), and upon request at the tavern caravans will ask for your help to escort them. It's really cool, I think it's going to be way way better than what I was hoping for. Oh and you can track footprints with a strategic map, that means that if there's like a group you're after, you can track them down with their footprints. (I didn't find it usefull but who knows, it's a cool idea)

To clear it up, Zantalos, I was rubbishing both the magic backpack and the rabbit assistants.

But about the travel system on the map in Mount And Blade, are you saying it's similar to the way you walked around the map on The Secret Of Monkey Island and stuff? I thought that system was pretty great. It wasn't really amazing or complex, but its straightforwardness was good and it made sense.

It's sort of like a fallout style overhead map, but it is 3d, realtime, and you can see other parties moving around.

Instead of magic backpacks have 2 sizes of backpack and maybe belt-pouches (belt pouches carry things like cash, powder, bandages etc).

This way you can bring the light backpack if you're just taking a short romp through the woods to see if you can pick some herbs to help heal your wounded shoulder, or the bigger one to run to the edge of an enemy place, drop it, then run in and kill everything. Run back out, pick up the sack, and start picking up anything that is valuable off of guys. Of course, i don't even know if there will be shops were you buy stuff anyways...

I think Hidden and Dangerous did pretty well (if that's the game I'm thinking of)

Never played Fallout. I was trying to buy the Fallout Trilogy thing last Christmas, which was Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. I couldn't get it, though. I was trying to get it off the net, but it turned out the person or whatever wasn't prepared to mail it to Ireland.
