So, uhh...
So, uhh...
I just went to the Members section, counted the number of entries per page of the Preorders section and multiplied it by the number of pages. Had to subtract 4 because the last page isn't quite full yet.
That's 50 * 272 - 4.
13596 preorders. 13596 * 30.
407,880 USD.
Ho.
Ly.
Shit.
When Overgrowth breaks a million dollars in raw income(That's 33,334 preorders, on the 667 page of the Preorderers member page) I'm going to throw a party for all my friends. Seeing as we get like 20 new preorders everyday, I have high hopes that that happens before I ship to boot camp... this summer.
Also, remember kids. Notch's profits may have not been typical of game developers and indies in general, but that doesn't mean that you should let anyone tell you that you can't earn an ass ton of money making video games.
But please note that this data doesn't take the old OG-NS2 bundle pricing into account, the fact that some folk like David and Aubrey probably didn't have to pay themselves $30 for the preorder status, etc etc. But this number shouldn't be too inaccurate. And it doesn't count pirates who go around spreading both OG by word of mouth and their stinky piracy. And it's also taken years to get to this point and preorders were slow at first.
Anyways, divide that income by 3 years and David and company are doing better than many Americans. Unless you divide it by four between the devs. Then their individual income is about a third of what is normal, at least what I'm used to seeing.
SO GO GET INSPIRED KIDDOS! Go find that thing in life that really makes you happy and make money off of having fun. It may take time, but go do it. You'll probably end up doing something else that makes you regret not taking this forum post more seriously if you don't.
EDIT: Made last sentence less demotivational.

Re: So, uhh...
Yeah, as long as everyone's getting the rent paid for now, that's doing ok. They did have to get some pretty swanky gear in, too. I'm assuming family loans, savings, and credit cards.
What will be awesome is when the engine is finished. Then they can license it to other builders, or hire a team o' writers and voice actors and make the next Skyrim/Fallout/Halflife, and rake in the real money.
Couldn't go to a better bunch of people. Yay!

Re: So, uhh...
Yeah, definately. Although, I think David is not going to license Pheonix. In the OGWeekly interview he mentioned that he had plans for a modular engine that is as close to truly universal as possible and that he'd rather not license out Pheonix. This is assuming that my consistently foggy memory is correct, though.
Re: So, uhh...
Yup, that's correct. And just so you know, right next to the page numbers in the members section they have a number of how many people are in the group. 13613 users as of now.
Re: So, uhh...
I did not see that number. I didn't need it anyways.
Re: So, uhh...
They only need to hire a few other actors, since John can do most of the voices.
Re: So, uhh...
Yup, pretty much. I thought about putting a soundboard together of all of John's impressions, but then I remembered that I was too lazy to do that.

You joined a year after me, and surpassed me in a few months. I would count on it.
Re: So, uhh...
