Black Shades Crashes on OS X

Post by najdorf » Mon Sep 25, 2006 5:27 pm

Black Shades starts, plays music, loads and then crashes...

Mac OS X 10.4.7 on iMac G5... but it also happened on other Macs I tried some months ago...

Does any of you actually have a Mac on which it works?

I had the same problem, so I had to download the classic version and run it in classic (Since I can no longer boot into OS9), which seems to run just as well as in OS9, unlike other times I've tried it in classic

I got it to work on my G4 Powerbook (Titanium) from 2004.
I'll have to download it again and check...since I was using 10.2.8 at the time (using 10.3.9 now...).

I know that before MacOSX 10.4.5(or whatever was before the 4.6 update),
it worked. Im using 10.4.7 now, and it crases exactly like it does for najdorf.

I was gonna run the OS9 version in Classic, but Classic has stopped working for me. There's something strange going on with the permissions on my comp (for example programs couldn't write to /tmp, which I have temporarily fixed by making me the owner of it... on repair permissions the problem comes back). When attempting to reinstall Classic I think I screwed it up more :|

Edit: lol, as you can see I forget to make new lines sometimes :p

Normally I'd be reasonably good at solving these sorts of problems, but it looks like I can only provide a very similar solution:

Temporarily change owner to you, then change the group to staff, wheel, or whatever if nececary (I think on mine it normally shows up as my username, but it acts like staff) then change the group permissions to be read/write (Assuming you need to write to it) and then change owner back to what it was before, will probably give the same general result, but is probably cleaner

Btw I think Black Shades is one of the best games I ever played. I never really dug Lugaru but this is a masterpiece. We need Black Shades 2, not Lugaru 2!! :P

No, David made his own format (.solid) and editor for it.

David lost it. I forget the details... It could have been a hard drive crash, for example.

I think that he said something about that, actually, now that I think of it.
Forgot about the black shades source, though. Actually, I think that it even says in the read me that you had released the source.
