new here, ive been following this game for a while

hey all

ive been following this game of gametrailers for like a year half and my interest has finally brought me here to learn more.

im thinking seriously about preordering so i can jump into this with you guys but i honestly dont even really know what this game is. i read the faqs and the answers seem a little short and somewhat vague so i guess ill ask you guys here

with each new alpha do we get to play the actual full game at its complete state with the minor alpha changes increasing the game each update?

until i came here today i assumed this was an online battle game sort of like jedi knights, but with a larger world. from what i know now am i to assume the alpha is single player only? no coop no multiplayer?

and now that i know it has a single player focus( iguess?) is it a open world blocked off by loading points? huge areas? linear maps?

sorry for the wall of text, i never played the game this was based off so im not sure how much info i can gather by looking that up

Hey, glad you found Overgrowth :D!

The weekly alphas are essentially building up to become the full game, though in the end, some story content might not make it into the weekly builds, until the final game is released. Until then, you will essentially follow the game development, every feature at a time.

Right now, there aren't plans for multiplayer, however, the developers have expressed interest in at least coop gaming over network, so it's not totally impossible that we'll see it. There is however local multiplayer and versus (on the same computer, that is).

The game will be based on very large maps with objectives. The maps aren't linear though, they are designed with exploration in mind, and will allow the player to find his or her own way through the level, be it stealthy or by being rambo.

Hope this answered some of your questions!

Here are some old blog posts about what they want to do with the levels:

http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/08/Avoidin ... strictions
http://blog.wolfire.com/2009/08/learnin ... el-design/

Here they discuss what kind of options they want to give to the player. So the levels aren't enormous enough to have for example several towns at once, but if there's a town, you'll get to move in it quite freely. At least on the outside and on the rooftops.
