What's the status with OG?

Post by Luminesque » Mon Jun 25, 2012 3:21 am

Hey everyone,
I'd like to buy a copy of Overgrowth but I thought I'd ask for opinions on the state of the game from someone who's already got it. Is it playable? Has it stagnated? Are the alpha builds showing major advancements, or is there no sign of the game being finished anytime soon?

I'm a little cautious only because $30 is a lot of money for an alpha build. :D

Thanks.
Lux

Most people in this forum will tell you that OG is awesome. If they didn't think so, they wouldn't hang around in this forum.

During the past few weeks / months, the development of new features has slowed down a bit. This is because Linux support was added recently, and the devs were distracted by 7DFPS. This week's alpha video implied that more gamist elements will be added in the near future, though. I suggest hanging around in the forums and/or watching the alpha vids for a few weeks.

Oh, and check Overgrowth Weekly too, it shows the stuff modders make.

Plus, $30 buys you the finished game, not the alphas. And goes for more coffee to support that effort. So you can get into playing it now or later, for the same cost.

I don't think Overgrowth will cost the same $30 when it's Beta, or Finished.
I think the price will raise then, just like Minecraft.

But we aren't sure. It might, but I haven't heard any of the devs say anything to confirm it yet. Could check with them on the IRC, though.

The development didn't slow down anything other than during 7DFPS. It's just that recently much work has been made to increase compatibility, fix bugs and lay the ground for future updates.

The devs have stated in the past that the price will not go up.

Ok, confirmation complete. Price will remain at happy $30.
