grouped items

i have learned that when ever you group and item it becomes a solid new object, it is one of the good things about the ability to build a map... until you decide to delete a grouped object. when you try it comes up with an error and then shuts down the game. is this just my game? if so please tell me how to fix it. if it is everyone's game please fix it because it frustrates me when i am trying to build a level and i delete a group object and i lose all my progress.
