OVERGROWTH being slow

i got the game yesterday. ever since then i have barely been able to use the internet. it is insanely slow. i know its in the alpha, but im getting mad. i tried looking online but the "config" text thing has yet to work. i just want to know how exactly to change the graphics of sound or whatever so i can just enjoy the game. plus, most of the time when i spawn a bot and try to fight it, the game freezes but i can still go into editor mode but cannot spawn stuffs.
