Lugaru Online

Post by zip » Thu Oct 14, 2004 1:36 pm

I was wondering if there is any interest in a Lugaru themed MUD(Multi User Domain/Dimension/Dungeon). For those who haven't heard of MUDs before, there is a rather good one for newbies located at http://exile.lurker.net/.
I have a design doc which outlines how the gameplay will work, certain features and the overall theme, if I get good response on this I will release it for discussion, feel free to shoot down any ideas you don't like.
I have the time, ability(:o), and the server to do this, but if no one is interested then there would be no point in me investing the time.

I would need at least one builder, somone to assist in creating the world(not coding). This person will need good gammar and spelling, the ability to finish something once it is begun, and time (must be online frequently to discuss the MUD and to do actual building work). I would like the builder(s) to be from the wolfire community instead of advertising on a MUD board.
Also at least one Imm(immortal) who does not build but deals with player issues when I am not around would be usefull. This person would also need good grammar/spelling, self control, and neutrality(can't have players getting favors from the higher ups just because they are buddies).

Is it like an MMO or something? As long as it's online it sounds good

Also I would need a few(5 would be nice) playtesters, to let the staff know if the code changes and areas etc are actualy.. er.. fun.
Only problem is, I need two more playtesters than the actual number of people who will end up playing the game(according to the poll anyway.

It's gonna be for mac only right? I'm building my new pc this weekend and my dad usually takes the mac to work so I doubt I'll be able to play on the weekdays if it's for mac.

No, it works from any computer that has Telnet, but you should use a specialized mud client realy...

I have started working on the MUD, but before I get too far into the development process and make major changes to the code I need a team to test these changes, and see how they influence the game. Things like how death will be handled, economy, wether or not to have classes, and the alliances that will be present in the game. All these things are extremely important, but you have to play the game to be able to make decisions about them.
Thus the staff and playtesters will be extremely important to the development of the game, and will influence it a great deal.

Open Positions[Staff].
  • One or more Builders, people to create the game world.
A general purpose immortal, to deal with player issues and disputes when I am not around.
Also, we will need a playtesting team of at least 5, who will try out new features and be VERY involved in deciding what the game will be like, including some of the very important items I mentioned above.
The immortals will also help playtest the game.
PM me or contact me on AIM if you are interested, you will need AIM if you wish to be on the playtesting team OR staff, as it provides an excellent way to have group discussions.

Here are a few "homework" muds for those interested in playtesting, if you haven't played a MUD before you won't know how things like wilderness systems and classes will affect the game!

Wilderness System and PK:

PK, general depth of game:

It's text based? I don't have a problem with that but I got my hopes up for a cool multiplayer Luguru thing.

Poll

Post by Ruahine » Wed Oct 20, 2004 4:40 pm

Hey, the poll wouldn't let me vote, otherwise I would've voted yes.
What code base is this MUD gonna be?
I'm a big fan of MUSH, but I've gotta feeling that you're not headed in that direction.

Well, there might be roleplaying.. depends on what the players want. Deep roleplaying with economy and magic and deities, or just PK.
I decided to use Circlemud 3.1, nice solid base. I was using Smaug but that turned out to suck bad.

All the LugaruMUD info will be there, tommorow I am going to turn those files into HTML and give them a nice CSS style sheet.

Also... I am (hard?) at work on the Lugaru.tk page, the first, the one, the only.... Lugaru/Wolfire fan site! Move over PlanetX ^_^
