Did Wolfire make the news recently?

Post by Silb » Fri Jun 29, 2007 5:13 am

I just noticed this:
Most users ever online was 110 on Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:26 pm
Moreover, as of the time of this writing, there are about 60 guests online.

Last time this happened was when Lugaru was slashdotted, if I recall correctly.

Apparently, in spite of the last significant piece of Wolfire news being half a year old, something has been driving more traffic than slashdot, for several days in a row.

It is very mysterious.

Slashdot is slashdot.org, news source for computer enthusiasts.

Grayswandir, you might be right. Stupid me. However a swarm of spam bots that don't spam and fail to register an account in the first place still qualifies as very mysterious.

Nah Silb, if it was spam bots, they would register, otherwise they wouldn't be spam bots. They would be guest bots that can't make threads and serve no purpose.

Hmmmm. I am not sure what it is, but our fancy Google Analytics log doesn't seem to know either. I think it is probably some kind of bot; spam, indexing, who knows?

Err...I've never seen an Apple Store which wouldn't let you simply use the Internet on any of the computers they have on display. No hacking required. Take the easy way out.

Apple store is closed for iPhone day, you've got to hack in to use the network. By the way, to stay on topic, it looks like the massive influx of guests was the Google bot and Yahoo bot and maybe a few others deciding to do a massive index of the forums all at once.

Off-topic, I'm surprised they left it online then.

On-topic, that seems a weird coincidence. Maybe they decided to index it when they thought I wouldn't be there to screw it up somehow; I'm supposed to be gone today, but somehow, this crappy, cheap hotel has Internet. Sucks for you guys.
