Re: Fan Art
Oh thanks SF! I couldn't figure out how to do that... AWESOME!
Re: Fan Art
Is this deserving of a fan art post? I think so:

Yes.
Yes, I did.

Re: Fan Art
That idea was brilliant. We should do it for all relevant wikis.
Re: Fan Art
Eh, just sort of came to me when I got to the popular culture part. I was all like "WTH? Assassin's Creed and Prototype ain't got shit on OG's parkour!" *Add, add, add"
But maybe we should. Maybe...

Re: Fan Art
Hey guys, I did a quick painting of Turner. Tell me what you think.
Re: Fan Art
Hey, that's pretty good. My only complaints are that the ears should be longer and stand straighter. I think his face should be more acorn-like too. His nose is too snout-like for me. I know I saw a good diagram of what I mean once, but I'd have to dig for it. But everything else about it is good. I like the fur, the eyes are good. Very nice painting overall.
Here's that image. Not the greatest for it, but it gets the general idea across. I saw it on drawfurry.com which I found a kinda useful site for getting the shape of an anthro character down. I had a hard time with heads and just general shape that I was gunning for, but I got it figured out and this site felt like it helped.
I never had a problem with hands though, which is strange. I must spend a lot of time idly staring my hands or something.

Re: Fan Art
yeah with the way it is right now it's kinda earily human.
lol
lol
Re: Fan Art
Sorry if it creeps you out. The human-like look is basically just my style. But I agree that the facial structure needs work.

Re: Fan Art
hahaha it doesn't really, I just wanted to make a joke about the ears, hence the spelling.
Re: Fan Art
No problem Fidchell, but don't change it or your style if this is just the way it is
I wouldn't want to impose my opinions or beliefs on someone. I hate that kind of thing.
But yeah, no problem. I like to help folk out, or just give advice. Makes me feel better when I have to beg for C++ help, or art tips Ninjas is great for art tips. He's all like "Today, I'm gonna do some half-ass art to remind myself how awesome I normally am." And then makes something akin to this:

Yeah. What's really important in making your painting and its subjects stand out is by proper understanding of lighting and shadowing placements. Even in an awesome looking painting like that if I look closely I can see very simple strokes done on various parts of the clothing that properly give it a 3-dimensional look.
Re: Fan Art
I know. Aubrey's art is wonderful, but then he comes out with that art video recently, and outperforms himself amazingly. In the comments under that video, someone posted up links to a guy who talked about edge treatment in his blog thingy. I learned a ton of useful stuff just reading the first 5 pages, and it is a huge insight into the work that goes into paintings. While the articles were on oil painting specifically, they would apply rather directly to digital painting because it's edge theory, not oil painting technique. Sky's the limit, especially when it comes to personal hobbies and skills. There's no point where you can say "Holy shit. I can't get any better."

Re: Fan Art
Honestly, I kind of like Aubrey's old style better. It was like his signature.
Re: Fan Art
I like both ways of doing things, but it felt to me like all he did with his old style was make it look more realistic. The lighting was better and it seemed to have more 'pop' to it.
