Don't hate on my art skills and impeccable timing. And I believe Jack is right, it's Lupine.

Lupine is an adjective describing things pertaining to/resembling wolves. Lapine is being used to do the same for rabbits. Though after looking it up to make sure I didn't say anything stupid, I discovered that "Lapine" is not technically a word. At least not in that sense. I believe it's just something adapted from Watership Down, where it's the name of the rabbits' language. The word "Lapin" can refer to rabbits themselves in particular contexts, or their fur; the author didn't name it randomly, there is etymological connection. But it doesn't appear to be a proper adjective for this in the vein of lupine, canine, feline, murine (that one's rats/mice, and yes, I did just look that up), etc. So it works for casual use, but most english teachers wouldn't approve.

While I'm looking things up, it appears that the proper word for things pertaining to rabbits is actually "Leporine".

So he either made a simple spelling mistake, or made a clever reference that went over adwuga's and my head.

I'm fine either way, really :D

Sometimes authors will write something really profound without realizing it. This could be like that, referring to the Wolf(lupine) getting hit, while the rabbit(lapin in french) hitting the wolf, giving a single, clever word a double meaning and allowing it to convey so much more than it would have. Korban is genius.

Have you seen the movie? It's not as good as the book, being a lot shorter, and a movie adaptation of a book, but it's animated in watercolor paint, which really captures the feel. It was pretty awesome, actually.

That terrified me as a child. the blood going across the field, and the ferrets.
