BlackShades custom levels?

Post by thomahawk » Mon Mar 14, 2005 10:05 pm

I was introduced to BlackShades a few weeks ago and love it, but I can't get the custom levels file to work...

I just want to make a level with a really long time limit and the baddies can have all sorts of guns. I like playing around and I prefer the straight-out ones to the inter-dispersed zombie stuff, while that's very cool sometimes a guy just wants to shoot people without too much effort, y'know? ;)

If someone can tell me how to make this happen I'd really appreciate it.

Wait, you joined the forums just to say that? Thats the spirit. I had the same problem. I think that it says somewhere that playing through the built in ones it plays your custom levels, but it doesn't do that for me.
Also, make sure that custom levels or whatever is set to 1 in the config file.

Sadly the game doesn't let you make levels nor does it let you mod it. Who knows maybe in the next 2 years david will make blackshades 2.

So, basically, the custom levels text file, and the custom levels option in the config file do nothing?

From the jist of it i would agree.

Although the custom games cannot be made there is still use of the game. Dont throw it away just because of that.

Nothing has ever been made that cannot be altered or changed, try your hardest and maybe you can change the default maps.

Oh, and to save you the trouble, SOS and Black Shades maps cannot be intertwined or used on either game other than the original.

hmm... SOS and a black-shades merge might be a cool cheat... it wouldn't be that hard to merge the two; the lugaru engine already has nice collision detection and rag-doll physics built into it, and the models are just polygons (3D-Inated). All he would have to do is insert the models into the engine, though height might be an issue. More complex AI, etc.
I would love to see SOS continue, though that seems unlikely now...

Hello, I intended to put my first post on the lugaru forum, but anyway, I've played black shades, and I've made custom levels for them, you just read the readme and it tells you the format for the levels…

And set custom levels to 1 in config.txt and play as you would normal levels, it should work

EDIT: Oh, and use something that saves to simpletext format if it still doesn't work

What is soul of steel?
I'm thinking the game engine, but I could be mistaken.

Soul of Steel is an uncompleted game made with the same engine as Lugaru, some people may still have the beta if you ask around.

Well, that game would rule, if I could play it on anything but high detail. Could someone send me a copy of their config.txt that is set to detail zero, and actually a .txt? Because it doesn't work for me.
