I remember that on the world of goo blog thing it was something like 90 or 95 percent of online, thats really depressing.

To be fair, the positives of piracy are a bit convoluted.
I'm not sure you can argue favorably in the case of video games because they aren't something that can be vetted universally.

Programs like the Adobe and Microsoft suites do so well regardless of piracy because, thanks to the popularity of cracked versions they have become the industry standards (a good example of this was Cubase, there was a pirated version years ago that was uber popular and a lot of people had it, which killed the profit on that release.. but when Cubase released their second program, it had much better piracy protection, that coupled with the massive fan base they'd created they sold a hella lot).

I'm not sure that dynamic works as well in the case of Overgrowth.

I think indie games need generous demos - one of the reasons I opted to buy World of Goo rather than Penumbra was because Penumbra's demo was just tight: like 4 minutes of gameplay! Then again I got bored of Wik: Fable of Souls before ever finishing the demo :P

I guess it's all in the balances, as usual...
