Speaking of crazy - to celebrate Wolfire's going to GDC 2010 I've finally got round to finishing the "here's a few things you could try implementing by yourselves!" part of my Sokoban tutorial.

In other words - BEARD SOKOBAN: GDC 2010 EDITION

Image

New features include:
  • Support for multiple levels (soft cap of 15)
  • Greatly improved level-editor
  • Pop-up messages
  • Various fixes
  • Stuff I've forgotten

Linux .tar.gz
Window .zip

Windows users - there should be all the .dlls you need in the .zip, if you don't have them already installed. Linux users will probably have them installed if they play games, but just in case you'll need SDL and specifically SDL_Image for this to work correctly.

Thanks guys - I got halfway through adding the additions when I made the original but I got bored and didn't work on it for ages. Then the NS2 guys put on the competition so I was thinking of modifying it and making a short of "Minotaur" clone where John has to escape from an Onos. Didn't finish it in time for the competition though so it's only an improved Sokoban :(

If enough NS2 players demand it though, I WILL make a John vs Onos game

(Or possible John vs one of the NS2 guys)

I wonder if you can import pictures into the Overgrowth alphas and create a "john" rabbit. Then you can have Beard Overgrowth.

Here (now only a few threads down) would be a start.
But submissions are in the Unknown Worlds forum.

Just noticed a mistake. He said he'd dye his beard pink, but I don't think he'd dye his hair pink?

EDIT: Fixed it... hmmm

There will be a mod where you play as a John. That much is certain. The question is only when

Here, I posted this in the SPF, but hey, you don't have to be in the SPF to be in the Beard Cult...
Basically, I realized that it's been far too long since I've released a decent map. It's 2010, we need a good map to carry our spirits high. After all, that Riverhurst and Arena Pack SUCKED ASS. Who would even want some gay maps like those? So here, I introduce the next best thing since SMALLTANK...

JOHN'S BEARD

Image
-In this map you are a lone Rabbot (Or rabball) trapped in a horrific room with nothing else other than John's face Here you can accessorize him with anything from sunglasses to an eye patch. or even some more beard.

Image
-Okay, so Wolfire just released a really bad Alpha, so what? Now you got a hammer to smash the face of the guy responsible for their failure! Or, if you just feel the need to vent some anger...

No joke here guys, you can go ahead and delete any other map you may have in your pitiful little alpha, you won't need anything else now that you've got John on your side. You can also spawn objects to drop on John's face if the hammer isn't enough for you...

The file below has the levels, and even the decals for John's face. Now you can put his face everywhere. You could make an entire city out of his face if you really needed to do so. I also included the weight files mentioned here so you can load this in the latest alphas. Be on the look out for more accessories for your very own John Character!
