DOS was decent for its time.

There were some good games on DOS.
DOOM 1 & 2, Heretic, Hexen, Quake (first one), Descent series, Syndicate, SimCity, Abuse, etc., etc.

A lot of things are the way they are today because of DOS, both good and bad... The modern consumer-available PC is arguably the work of DOS... Until DOS, PCs weren't as common or as cheap. Sure, there were MACs, but they weren't cheap (still aren't).

Even applying BIOS updates still often requires using DOS.


However, all that said, I still prefer Linux over anything. It's so flexible.

DOS was a branch of unix that was supposed to fix all the problems. They went the wrong way :P
