Limbs getting ripped off the bodies is kind of unlikely since the game revolves around melee combat. I have yet to see anyone getting their limbs punched right off their body. It's just not possible. There will however, be swords etc. in the game but I doubt those are strong enough to cut through bone either.

Swords can definitely cut through flesh and bone. It takes skill to make a clean cut that goes through a static target, and doing that in a fight against a moving opponent would be unlikely. Still, they are certainly strong enough to do that.

Here are few videos of swords cutting through animal carcasses. According to one of the comments, the first video uses "a type XVIII sword - not designed primarily for slicing - it's a compromise cut and thrust sword."

The second video uses a longsword, a light, two-handed weapon. It's an all-purpose weapon that's not designed solely for cutting, but it has great leverage. Still, the deer's chest cavity is empty in this test.

And here's a cavalry saber, which is the only one of these actually designed around cutting power. The curved blade alone makes a big difference.

I don't think dismemberment would add much for the gameplay (it's just eyecandy, really), so I doubt dismemberment is going to be added. Everything's possible, of course, but it's not that high at least in my wishlist.
Any way, here are some spears and swords modelled for the game.

It's easier to apply dismemberment if only lethal strikes dismember. For example, if you've been fighting with an enemy for sometime so he's low on health so if the next strike (with with a weapon) is powerful enough to kill it, then an arm or the head could get chopped up.

Though I'm sure The Guys will let us know if they intend to implent it.

Would be cool if a dog ran away with an enemy leg between its jaws.
I don't know about that. I seem to recall that the Afro Samurai vg had dismemberment. And it was quite good too.

You mean that it might not be that hard?
I was suddenly struck by a slight relief.

That would cause all the other dogs to chase it. Losing a leg might save your life that way.
Would your limbs regrow between levels? It would be kind of awkward crawling with just a torso.

Maybe I'm just sick in the head but I think cutting off limbs and heads off enemies is very entertaining and I hope Overgrowth has as much as possible.

I was just playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (which is a very unpolished but fun game) and it is just satisfying to chop an enemies head off. I also am in love with Happy Wheels - http://www.totaljerkface.com/happy_wheels.php - which is only funny because of the extreme gore engine.

In my opinion Gore is good for a game because it makes the weapons seem more powerful as well as make the Player feel like a Bad Ass. I loved sneaking up and slitting an enemies throat in Lugaru and I would love to cut a wolf's foot off in Overgrowth. I know I probably sound like a 12 year old demanding so much gore but look Overgrowth is an Action game. Just look at all the popular action games of today, God of War, Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Dead Space. Gore is cool.

This.

In most games with gore, you don't get your arm ripped off unless you die, so you wouldn't have to worry about a one armed, 1 and a half legged and one eared turner.

Hell, you could even go to the next level, if you get a really tough strike in, your arm, or leg, would tear through the body (probably mostly for dogs and wolves, and whaleman).

How about a mod for all the Twilight haters out there, where every enemy is replaced by Robert Pattinson, or that emotionally crippled retard they call a main character. They can barely do any damage to you, and you get to rip them apart and set fire to the pieces, but this time, there is actually blood in a Twilight thing, and the blood goes all over the screen whenever you attack.

To recap, Gears of War:Overgrowth, no locust, just bad actors, and no guns, but lots of fire and blood and gore. What do you guys think of that then?!

Ahhh, I see, well then you liked what you were reading not what you were hearing.

Sorry couldn't resist, I was in a really random mood when I wrote the other post, and I had to follow it up at the risk of looking like an idiot... :?
