Bump. I heard that Michael Jackson bought rights to The Beatles. That makes me roll and chuckle with amusement in a most gratifying way. So any MJ or Beatles you buy goes to Jackson's inheritors. Anyone know if there's any truth behind that?

I thought some corporation bought the rights to The Beatles, and that's why they were withheld from places like iTunes...

Yeah, Jendraz would know this better than me but I would suspect that artists who sell their music through iTunes don't get most of the money. A lot probably goes to Apple.

The breakdown is roughly:
35 cents to apple
53 cents to the label
11 cents to the artist

While Apple's share is rather large, some of this is offset by the actual operating costs of iTunes. On the other hand, the record label does relatively little to earn their 53 cents, which is a complete ripoff to the artist.
